Description:

I love knitting socks and if you are reading this, I'm sure you do as well, or you at least want to!!
For this swap, you will be swapping new yarn to make a pair of socks and a pattern to make said socks with!
After being flaked on by many people, I am unfortunately going to have to ban people with a lower than 4.75 rating... unless you have a good reason why your rating is low... ANYHOO!!!!!!!! AIM FOR THOSE HEARTS! Markers, needles, stitch holders, tea, articles about knitting... you get the idea!

UPDATE After reviewing my listing and receiving a few messages, I thought I would put a slight stipulation to this swap. Im sure people wont mind at all... Without coming across as a total yarn snob I would like to put a quality check. I dont want to put a $$ amount but I would like the yarn to be swapped to be of a natural fiber/ nicer quality. Basically im saying I dont think many of us would like to get a ball of Lion Brand, Red Heart, or squeeky acrylic yarn... im sure you get my idea :)

Hey guys! I was thinking of making this a sock knitting sort of club-ish... I was thinking of setting up a few themed sock knitting swaps... What do you think?

kueali 01/ 4/2008 #

I say GO FOR IT!!

kerryknits 01/ 5/2008 #

Sounds like a load of fun! I can't wait to see what you come up with.

MrsQ 01/ 5/2008 #

Great, just what I needed - another reason/way to feed my addiction! lol

I assume we will send SOCK YARN, right? I don't want to send a $20 ball of sock yarn and receive a $4 ball of cheap wool in return. I am a yarn snob when it comes to socks.

KnitThis 01/ 7/2008 #

Yes. The idea was to send SOCK YARN! I dont expect people to send cheap yarn. I guess there is no easy way to say it but I do expect "yarn snobs" to sign up for this swap. (I am a yarn snob ;))I dont think that any of us want to recieve a "cheap" ball of yarn.

Just in case my partner is interested, I would love to try bamboo or corn (do they make that?) sock yarn blends. I would give a heart for bamboo ( and would probably give one for any nice sock yarn). I also love alpacca but it is not available at my LYS.

I say "Yarn Snobs UNITE!" Life's too short to knit with squeeeky, plastic yarn!

I am also a lover of good quality, natural fiber sock yarn. When you put that much time and effort into making socks, you want them to feel luscious and look beautiful. Natural fibers do that.

I think the theme idea is a good one. This swap looks like lots of fun.

I came on swapbot today with the intention of starting a sock yarn swap, so I'm signing up for this instead! Anything for an excuse to visit the yarn store :)

I didn't think 'sock yarn' could mean anything but the natural fibre sock yarns on the market. I am glad you clarified KnitThis as I am easy to please but as I am sending beautiful made in Germany sock yarn (as is mum aka Glasgow Maureen) I would have been annoyed to get something of a lesser quality in return too as socks need to be made from good quality yarn as they take so long to make and for comfort! (And I am anything BUT a yarn snob LOL as I spend most of my time with acrylics for my charity blanket making!) :0) I cannot wait to get my partner details!!! Has there ever been a swap for exchanging a pair of knitted socks instead of just yarn that could be fun too?! :0)

GlasgowLindsay 01/16/2008 #

Oh I see you are thinking of doing more sock swaps KnitThis please do as we would love it...oh and our German sock yarn is a natural fibre! My profile with my love of acrylics probably gave people in this swap fits sorry I didn't think...it is just mostly I do work with "squeeeky, plastic yarn" I hadn't heard that description which is too funny brnwebgrrl! :0)

as yarn snobby as I am, I do tend to do some projects in acrylic blend yarn.... I just did my first ever sweater.... oh boy was I scared! it was for my husband and I didnt want to spend 200$ in cashmere so I made it out of the lion brand wool ease. I figure this was perfect. Super cheap, still a teensy bit of wool, and fool proof for him... as he likes to stick EVERYTHING in the washer and dryer! But as for socks... nothing but the best for my tootsies :)

I think every yarn has its place. I love Lion Brand wool ease thick and quick when teacher other cause they see something happen fast.

Could I make a suggestion for the next swap. Make it over two weekends or at least 3 weeks. I can only shop on a weekend and then mail the next weekend. It makes it hard to try to do anything during the week. I travel 50 miles one way to work ...not a lot of time at night to do much. Thanks for listening! Iva

KnitThis 02/ 1/2008 #

i did that... i realized it was a bit of a pain for me to shop and ship in the same week... from now on I will make a 2 week difference. Thanks :)
