Description:

With the new year on its way (hard to believe!) soon,I have been thinking of crafts I haven't tried yet,but would like to. Paperbead making has always seemed like so much fun! Why not give it a go in 2012?!

So,we will make our partners a dozen paperbeads for them to use however they would like!

This is for all of us beginners at this craft. If you are an experienced paperbead maker, you may join, but be aware that you will probably be receiving a beginner's level of beads. No harsh judgements-remember your own first attempts!

This is a great way to use up old magazines, books, envelopes, bits and pieces of ribbons, fabrics, etc.!

I will look up a tutorial to add to this if you all would like.I don't have any pics of any, either,so I will find one.

My only caveat is to remember that these are beads your partner might like to wear-so don't use any materials that will make the beads too bumpy or sharp!

I would definitely need a tutorial to review before I could commit. But it looks really interesting and I'd love to try it. :-)

RadicalRecrafter 11/22/2011 #

Ok,I have found a few tutorials;but I have no idea how to add them to the swap-at least so that they are clickable!?

lotti02 11/25/2011 #

To add a link, I think you just need to put a title for the link in these [ ] and then paste the http address for it into these ( ), with no space between the two sets of parentheses.

Just a test to see if it works ...

eHow paper bead tutorial

Hope that helps :)

RadicalRecrafter 11/25/2011 #

Oh! Thank-you, @lotti02 ! I hope more will join as the day nears! Remember-this is a beginner's swap.No pressure,no high expectations!

RadicalRecrafter 11/25/2011 #

Ok-I did something wrong there!

At least, these tutorials show you how easy and inexpensive they are!

lotti02 11/25/2011 #

@RadicalRecrafter ... almost there with the link. You just needed to remove the space between the title and the link ... or rather this ] and this ( ...

There are also videos on Youtube.com that shows you how to make them. Just put, "make paper beads' in the search box.

I just found this awesome tutorial and it looks easy enough that I might try it. Except I need to fork out $$$ for UTEE and a heat gun. Le Sigh.

RadicalRecrafter 12/ 7/2011 #

@bombardiette Please don't feel you need to spend any money for this swap! The instructions that inspired me are in a CPS book on altered art.It does call for UTEE and a heat gun (at least I already have a heat gun!).I haven't been able to FIND UTEE yet! So I am going with the ModPodge method! Supersimple and then I will get fancier with my materials if I think I really have the basics down. :D Remember this is a BEGINNER'S swap!

Radical, they have it at almost all craft stores. It's in the crafting section for stamps usually on the bottom shelf. (I've seen it in about the same location for hobby lobby and michaels. I'm not 100% if I've seen it at Joann's Fabrics) It looks like this: embossing

RadicalRecrafter 12/15/2011 #

My goodness! Thank-you @rattissia for even including the picture! Wow! I almost never get out to Michael's or ACMoore-generally I shop at Joann's.That would explain why I haven't seen it yet! I will definitely go look for it as soon as I get my jeep back from the garage! :D

@bombardiette Thanks for linking to that tutorial! Gives me many ideas. I haven't made paper beads since I was a little girl. Oh, and UTEE is so worth the money! I have it in a few different colors, love the stuff. Once you start using it, you'll wonder how you lived this long without it. OK, maybe that's a bit much, but trust me, it's so much fun!

RadicalRecrafter 01/ 4/2012 #

I have discovered the wonders of UTEE !! I can only find it in clear;but that is fine for me. So much fun to use! I want to dip everything in it! :D

17Papergoddess 01/ 5/2012 #

timing doesnt work for me BUT please consider hosting another round as this is one papercraft I havent tried yet & love the idea :)

RadicalRecrafter 01/ 6/2012 #

@17Papergoddess absolutely! I have already made way more than a dozen beads ! I will definitely do another round a little later on!

Amigirl 01/15/2012 #

I got the UTEE with a 40% off coupon at AC Moore. It is cool stuff, I like it! Paper beads are a mess to make, take a lot of processing to get them to look anything like a bead, at least mine do! I ended up with using mod podge-treated black and pink paper made into tight rolls with the rolled ends dipped in pink ink to cover the white paper, then rolling them in embossing ink, alternating with three coats of UTEE, a coat of glitter embossing powder, then drying on a wire. They still look too much like paper for my taste. I hope my partner is OK with them.
