Dotee Shabby Chic swap

Well I can’t help it. Working on Dotees keeps taking me to my stash of fabrics, ribbons, laces, beads and cameos. Now I’ve just purchased some glass rose beads and I just have to make some pretty, girlie, frilly Dotees! Care to join me?

This swap is for a Dotee Doll in a shabby chic theme. I don’t really know how to define shabby chic except to say that it means whites and pastels with lace and pearls, roses and cameos. Let’s not fret over it. Let’s just have fun with some elegant lacy fabric and embellishments!!!

You will be making 1 doll for each of 2 partners.

I am making this international. The dolls are small and lightweight. They fit into small bubble envies and ship overseas with relative ease to the pocketbook.

If you don’t know much about Dotee Dolls I’ve included some links that should help.

To see some photos of finished Dotees check out these flickr photos

It is not necessary to wait for the swap to close in order to work on your dolls since there is no specific expectation to match your partners profile. Choose some materials that appeal to you (and are keeping with the theme) and go with it!

Please feel free to change the shape or style of your doll according to your own expression, but make sure it has an attached face, tail and loop hanger. Let’s keep the size somewhat uniform and do them in the 3-6 inch range (finished size).

Now for the rest of it – Although I’m very new to hosting I have been swapping here for more than a year. I’m familiar with the way things work. What I’ve discovered is that determining a swappers risk isn’t a simple number.

I’ll be checking ratings, swap history and swap comments when deciding which swappers will be allowed to participate. If you aren’t a well established swap-bot swapper you’ll need a filled out profile AND you’ll need to provide me with links to other pertinent information that would help determine that you are a reliable swapper. i.e. other swap sites where you have participated, photo streams that show a history of your work, recommendations from swap-bot members in good standing.

If you have questions or concerns please message or email.

Happy swapping!!!

Betsy AKA Hag53

I am not encouraging not sending in the least, and should that happen the non sender will not be allowed in my swaps until they make good and satisfy me that it won't likely happen again, however I do want to know if you do not receive your dolls. Not only will I angel but I've had offers from other Dotee fans to angel should there be a problem.

This sounds like a really nice Dottee swap. Thanks

BluEyedPenny 01/17/2008 #

I hope it's ok that I joined another one of your Dotee Doll swaps! I absolutely love making these and I have some perfect lace and beads for a shabby chic one! :)

Hag53 01/17/2008 #

Thanks rubberstampcollector! The possibilities are just endless with these Dotees.

Hag53 01/17/2008 #

Welcome back BluEyedPeny - you should have some ratings by the time this one closes. I see you've sent out some swaps already, hopefully those will get rated for you. Have fun!

RobinT 01/17/2008 #

Wheeeee! More fun for me!

dreamerkins 01/17/2008 #

so, first dotees are allowed? ok, i'm going to join.

ivoryblushroses 01/17/2008 #

Had to laugh when I saw this swap today as this morning I was thinking about starting one with the same theme! Of course I'm joining up!!!

Chanel 01/17/2008 #

Okay if this continues we are going to HAVE to start a Dotees Anonymous or something. LOL

Hag53 01/17/2008 #

Yes, dreamerkins, first dotees are welcomed! We all had our first dotee and all I've heard from folks is that they feel honored to have someones first doll!

That is funny ivory - I just keep coming up with more and more and there are lots of really cool ones being offered by others too! As soon as I listed this one I thought hmmmmmm, how about a diva - you know opposite of shabby chic , like wild red and slinky black? Well, maybe someone else will do it! Hint, Hint... smile

Hag53 01/17/2008 #

LOL!!! Dotee Anonymous - thats exactly what I'm coming to at this rate! Well, for me first it was ATCs then for several months matchboxes and now Dotees! What can I say??? LOL!!! Could be worse, I guess!

MsCraftALot 01/17/2008 #

Damn it! I'm gonna avoid looking at dottee swaps for 2 months now, lol.

dreamerkins 01/17/2008 #

o, not that i'm going to, but for those that prefer it, are legs instead of tails ok? i've seen a few of those this evening, as i've been perusing all of the dotee threads and the links on them. i prefer the tails myself, but i still wondered...

littlewanda 01/18/2008 #

I don't know how I'm going to stick to my 6 swaps per month limit LOL. I lovvveee shabby chic!

Hag53 01/18/2008 #

I'm okay with legs instead of a tail. I'll probably continue to make mine with tails, but I like the legs too! I've now received a dotee with legs - she's adorable!!!

dreamerkins 01/20/2008 #

i just made my first, and she will look better with legs (all that's left is the legs and a hanger), but my second will look better with a tail. I'm new to shabby chic too, though, and worried my first may not qualify...

piggybaby 01/24/2008 #

Dottee legs? I love that idea. where can I get some?? :)

candi 01/29/2008 #

WOW this sounds great I LOVE shabby chic BUT I have no clue how to make this I haven't seen one in person ye.t Have fun ~I cant wait to see pics

Hag53 02/ 1/2008 #

You would make them up, piggybaby... either with beads or whatever else you can think up that make legs!

ladydy5 02/ 2/2008 #

I am hooked on making these little darlings. Count me in.

flowerlily64 02/ 2/2008 #

JennyTheArtist 02/ 2/2008 #

I just finished my shabby chic dotees and the pics are in my flickr. These were fun!

Hag53 02/ 2/2008 #

I just picked up a few things for this theme today, as if I didn't have enough. I just couldn't resist a pack of fabric that looks like it was made for the theme. And pink roses? How could I not get those?

Jenny - they are just perfect. I love them and can only hope mine are near as lovely!

I'm looking forward to these too!

alleycat 02/ 5/2008 #

help i can't find the link to join up. ROFLOL. i know i'm thick, but i'm a newbie, and i can not for the life of me find it.

mwquilt 02/ 8/2008 #

This will be my first Dotee swap, so I am very excited. I have spent a lot of time looking at Dotees on the web and thought it was time I actually made some. I already have the fabric and made a little pattern, and I have been sketching some ideas for how to embellish the Dotees, but I have to go shop today for felt to do the faces. In theory I am only going to buy felt, but who knows what embellishment delights will tempt me once I am in the craft store?

I am so pleased to be taking part in this swap.

P.S. I don't mind if the Dotee I receive has legs, if that is the way my partner prefers to create her.

Debzhouse 02/ 8/2008 #

I had fun making mine and I think Im addicted to these little cuties.

RobinT 02/12/2008 #

Mine went out today to greeneyedraven and scootersissy.

BeadinBeth 02/16/2008 #

My little shabby chic dotees went off in the mail today to eda and emerald torch. I loved the way they turned out so much I ended up making one for myself too. Can't wait to see what will be coming my way.

mwquilt 02/17/2008 #

My first Dotees are going pretty well. I have the faces on the the bodies stuffed and I am making an extra one for me, so I am not traumatised at having to say goodbye to the others when they leave for their new homes.

Looking forward to the embellishment part next.

This is great fun.

Prpldy 02/19/2008 #

Mine are going out today to timmetje and chanel....hope they arrive safely.

lucias 02/23/2008 #

Hag53 02/26/2008 #

Mine went out today too. A lot of these little darlings are on their way already!

mwquilt 03/ 2/2008 #

My shabby chic Dotees are finished now! I will be sending them in the next couple of days..they are very excited about going to their new homes. Will let the recipient know by pm when they are on the way ( as well as marking "sent" of course).

These were my first Dotees and it was so exciting when they were finished.

smilesandsunshine 03/ 6/2008 #

Love my dolls! I'll have to admit the ones I sent were a little small.
