Description:

Inchies are little pieces of art that are 1" square. Therefore, you have to have an Inchie to make an Inchie Charm.

The charms must have one inchie made of something sturdy, then embellished with charm-like items, beads, jewels, curly wires, etc and have a jumpring or loop at the top for attaching to something else.

Some materials suitable for these inchies are: watercolor paper, squares of soda can aluminum, sheet copper, polymer clay, chipboard, shrinkydink plastic, friendly plastic, lexan, plastic or wood tiles, etc. If you use anything with a sharp edge, like metal, please fold and crimp or otherwise make it safe and not sharp.

We will have 6 partners and make one Inchie Charm for each--this way we get a bunch with less risk of not getting any! It also means you can make 6 nearly identical charms because everyone will only get one of yours, but also 5 others from their other partners, making a nice assortment.

Please feel free to ask your partner for any preferences or things he/she might not want, or make them however you like. (I'm thinking matching preferences from their profiles could result in hearts!)

No newbies for this swap, sorry--I will make another newbie-friendly swap for inchie charms later. You must have at least a 4.8 rating and zero no sends.

Summary: 6 partners, one inchie charm for each.

what an awesome idea!! This will be so much fun!

Glad you like it! I did one in a Yahoo Group and have some fabulous charms already! I just love 'em, and made a wire "charm tree" that I hung from the ceiling in my office/studio so I can see them all the time! You can't have too many either because they are so small! Cyn

it is also possible to make fabric inchies?

snarglebean 01/21/2008 #

Yes, like the person above, I would like to know if fabric inchies are ok.

LMM 01/23/2008 #

Usually inchies are just one sided with artist info on the back. Are these the same? Or should both sides be embellished?

twobluecrows 01/24/2008 #

Fabric inchies are fine! If you can stiffen them well enough to keep their shape if used for jewelry, all the better.

As for the backs, If you can write really small on the back with your name, and fit decorations there, too, it would make a better charm.

The ones I have are mostly undecorated on the backs, and you can see it as they hang, but it's ok either way. If you use brads or other embellishments that make the back messy, glue a piece of decorated paper or stitch a cover of other fabric with your signature on it as part of the decoration to cover up the messy bits--that would work very nicely!

Ok..I'm in trouble. I have a new addiction! I have made about 30 of these. I am including them in my swaps. These are a real blast to make and sooooo creatively fun!!

CraftyDez 01/29/2008 #

Yup, very addictive. Wait till you have a whole plastic shoe box full, but always somehow decide not one of those fifty million in that box is really what you are looking for, so you make even more.

VJP and CraftyDez--please upload some pictures of yours to our gallery! I'd love to see more examples!

Anyone else have pics? Cyn

I have one already! Thanks Vee! Cyn

My packages came back! My screwy hometown post office is so extremely anal about some things that I had to repackage the domestic ones or pay an extra 31 cents each! And they keep demanding customs forms on things that don't really need them, so I just mailed the two going to Italy from another post office. They are all in the mail again!

I sent mine out!!! Yay!

LisaRuth 03/10/2008 #

Mine are on their way. Yippee! Please, everyone, upload to the gallery what you sent and/or received. I want to see everyone's charms. I did it for the first time today and, guess what, it was easy. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did with this swap.

Lisapotterylady 03/14/2008 #

I received all six from my partners ~ thank you to all who sent such beautiful charms! Mine have been mailed out, but the one to Italy came back and had to be sent again.
