Description:

For this swap you'll have 1 partner and make for them one little green (recycled) booklet with things you learned through the postage stamps!

I have been thinking how to include everyone and not set up swap with one person for each country and here is what I came up with:

Select 10 postage stamps from ANY country except your own and your partner's (used is preferred!!!), look up for the story behind the image on the stamp and write it down in your booklet.

Rules for making booklets:

  • booklet should be at least 6 " x 4"

  • booklet has to be handmade and 100% made of recycled materials (you can use for covers: greeting cards, thin cardboard from cereal boxes, etc. / for pages: old book pages, magazine pages, junk mail, leaflets, etc. / for writing: hand written, hand drawn or clips from magazines or books)

  • it's strictly forbidden to use computer to print out images / text!!! No stickers! (unless they are recycled from envelopes and such)

  • try to keep story behind each stamp on separate page and don't forget to glue a stamp along with a story!

REQUIREMENTS for participants:

  • Have completed at least 10 type 3 swaps and have them rated as well. I will automatically remove from the swap participants who do not qualify.

  • Have at least a 4.90 rating with no recent 3s or 1s.

  • Make the package sturdy to keep booklet from being damaged during the mailing process.

I'll host this swap each month with different theme so keep an eye on future swaps!

I'm posting this swap early and will leave 20 days to send out your booklets so you have a chance to collect needed stamps to complete it.

If you have any questions, you can send me PM or leave comment here!

Happy learning and happy swapping!

I have set up April green booklet swap as well so I don't have to leave reminders:

Fabulous idea! Just wondering, can I use a typewriter to type out the words?

helenmarie123 02/16/2012 #

Ooh sounds fun but what do you mean the story behind the stamp and what we have learned from it?

MichelleWillow 02/16/2012 #

@mag yes, as long as it is on recycled paper

@helenmarie123 you can always look up on google ;) for instance, this stamp:

is scene from the Hengshan mountains, so you Google or go to Wiki to find out more about those mountains and you write it down.

or this stamp (I have it in my collection):

see in the corner, you can see the name of the animal so you google it.

or these:

See? On most stamps there is a little writing what it represents.

If you don't find anything written on the stamp, use following: type into Google image description, land of origin, and country of origin, like this: "butterfly postage stamp usa". Than go to pictures tab and pick the one you have. Most often, you'll get some kind of background about stamp so you can look up further.

I have just uploaded pictures on Flickr for another, similar swap we did in European group. You can view them here if you need an idea. For that swap we needed to pick 10 stamps from our own country (mine being Croatia).

So, you need to create something similar, only with stamps that are not from your country or your partner's country. Any other country is OK but those 2!

Are we supposed to pick 10 stamps from one country? That is, all 10 from Azerbaijan, or can it be 5 Azerbaijan, 3 Zimbabwe, 2 Qatar? (assuming those countries are otherwise acceptable, etc etc).

MichelleWillow 03/ 1/2012 #

No, you can pick 10 stamps from which ever country you want APART from your own and your partner's. It can be from one country or from 10 countries. Sender's choice.
