Description:

Why, Mr. ZIP knows all about stamp selvage! Selvage is the "non-postally valid areas of stamp panes (more commonly called "sheets") on many stamp issues" (why thank you, Wikipedia!), and that's exactly where Mr. ZIP first appeared way back in 1964.

You will send your partner one piece of interesting postal selvage. Perhaps it's just a beautiful title from a commemorative sheet of stamps, an interesting tidbit of history forgotten along the edges, or Mr. ZIP himself!

  • Send your selvage in such a way that it won't get bent. I suggest a greeting card or upcycled cardboard.
  • Include a nice note with your username and the name of the swap so that you can be rated.
  • Use real stamps on your envelope, none of those computer-generated bar codes. So impersonal!
  • Sender's choice.

I have just the thing for this swap - selvage from the Gregory Peck Forever stamp, with a wonderful description. One question - I'm not sure of the best place to cut it. What would y'all suggest?

I found Mr. Zip on some! Cool! :) He IS real, after all!

@manders2280 - I would just cut it vertically where the stamps kinda come into play. Does that make sense? :/ I never bought that set! But I love Gregory Peck. ^_^

Do we include the stamp(s) with the selvedge, or just the selvedge?

ColoradoKate 04/18/2012 #

Just the selvage is required, although I might use the stamp as postage. :)

I really wanted to join this swap, but unfortunately did not have any selvage to speak of, so I browsed the internet and founf a lovely sheet for my partner from this site it's really affordable too! Hope they like their surprise!

Oh you are welcome, I am glad I found it too, they shipped my order today so I don't see a problem with it getting to me on time for the swap, yay! :-) I really like this group, so glad I found it!
