swap graphic is a stunning Persephone wrap doll by Griselda This swap is for a no sew doll, using this tutorial from Go Make Something. New AND experienced doll makers welcome. Please understand that you may receive someone's very first art doll effort and should be treasured as such. The tutorial is just to give an idea of structure, this is open to your individual interpretation and modification. I have made these several times and the basic body is very simple and quick. The real fun is in personalizing it! You can make the doll very interesting by combining fabrics, yarns, and ribbons, or keep it simple by choosing one beautiful fabric. This is senders choice, so beginners can go ahead and start before partners are assigned. The only requirement for this swap is that the body be no sew-wrap style. Everything else is your individual interpretation. To show a variation and to show how liberally you can interpret the tutorial, here is a Poe doll I made and added to a base. But the premise is the same. The face is printed and decoupaged onto a button, and the whole thing is wrapped in nylon netting, which is sewn in the back. I didn't use wires, I used embroidery thread to do the wrapping, which is why you can't see it. Other than the netting, the only sewing is the hat. Everything else is glued and wrapped. You can cut the skewers as in tutorial or use a 1/2 size skewer. The Poe doll is a popsicle stick and it fit into a 5x7 envelope, so not very expensive to ship. The tutorial shows clay faces, but you can use whatever you wish: molded clay, sculpted clay, shrink plastic (thank you @Gofeen for that idea), painted, rubber stamped, embroidered, a blank disk, a mirror.... the only limit is your imagination. As far as embellishing, you can string beads, buttons, tags, etc on wires and wrap the doll, sew things on if that is your cup of tea, hot glue, E6000, whatever medium you are comfortable with. The most important thing is to have fun! This is open to new members of Crafty Witches and will get you a Type 3 rating! I reserve the right to ban anyone for any reason. In the comments, I am adding links for inspiration. |
