This is going to be so much fun. I made a birthday banner 2 years ago for my daughter's birthday with a large cupcake in the center. I made the frosting dimensional with fluffy batting under the applique and stitching. Plus, I put a see through pocket that you can slide a card into with the birthday person's name on it. She uses it for everyone's birthdays.

Do you have a size that the cupcake needs to be? Does the 8.5" block include the seam allowance? (Asking so if border in block will need to make wide enuf to include 1/4" seam or leave 1/4" ).

@JBromeling , the 8 1/2" includes the seam allowance. When the recipient sews it into a project, the finished block will be 8".

No particular size on the cupcake, but it should be big enough to look proportionate to the 8 1/2" block size. In other words, not a tiny 2" cupcake in the middle of a lot of background. :)
