This swap is US only. There is an international version here

I love decorating matchboxes and was hoping to see some fun matchbox swaps when I returned from a long break. I haven't seen any so I thought I would create one and see if there is any interest. If I find there is I will continue so we can get our matchbox fix. I've hosted alot of these with different themes but I think for this one it will be similar to a swap I hosted a few years ago:

A SIMPLE MATCHBOX SWAP

32 count matchbox

This will be a simple and easy matchbox swap. This is for those who are new to decorating matchboxes and for those who are old pros. Do keep in mind this is a low expectation swap. If you receive a decorated and filled matchbox they deserve a 5 no matter how it is decorated. With that in mind do put a little effort into making it. Add some embellishments to it - after all it is supposed to be 'decorated' and fill it with anything you like. Some examples include: buttons, beads, brads, eyelets, ribbon, fiber, confetti, mini erasers, anything that will fit inside.

1 partner ~ 1 decorated and filled matchbox (senders choice)

Be sure to include a note with your swap-bot name and the name of the swap otherwise you can't be rated by your partner.

This is open to anyone with a 4.95 or higher with no recent no-sends.

Most of all lets have fun!!!!

If you are not sure how to decorate matchboxes I know there are tutorials out there but don't have one on hand. If anyone has a link please post in comments. Thank You!

Are these small (32 count) or large matchboxes?

kasade 07/20/2012 #

Never mind-I just saw the answer! (I need more caffeine! LOL)

christygirl 07/21/2012 #

Well @ladyb we've got 5 "joiners" and 16 "watchers" so far! Off to a good start I think! Yay!!!

ladyb 07/21/2012 #

@christygirl yes we are. :)

This is my first matchbox. I'm very excited! What kind of glue do you recommend to work best for adhering the decorations to the matchbox? I have rubber cement and Elmer's clear glue. Would those work OK? Thanks!

ladyb 07/25/2012 #

You can use different kinds. Stick glue works well and less messy but liquid glue also works. You can try both you mentioned and see how it works for you. You want to make sure there isn't lumps or wrinkles or creases around the box and also dried glue sticking out the sides.

I say experiment and use what works best for you.

Can you make your own matchbox? I have a template to make one, but I dont have any on hand.

ladyb 07/29/2012 #

Yes you can @jobeg as long as it is the 32count size

Jobeg 07/29/2012 #

Is that the 2"x1.2" size?

Jobeg 07/29/2012 #

Sorry. I meant 2"x1.5" size. not 2"x1.2"

Thanks ladyb for the glue advice. I can't wait to get started on it!

I have never in my life made one! I have only seen 1.. So please be nice to me...lol I mean on rating and such. I have a template that the lady sent me when she sent a match box but its been years ago and I never got around to trying it...

Glad I found this swap.

There is an easy to follow instructions and template by Rachel Johnson... either Google matchbox template or go to rachel@swap-bot.com or www.rljart.com
