Swap Coordinator:user1449 (contact)
Swap categories: Challenges
Number of people in swap:25
Location:Other
Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:November 20, 2006
Date items must be sent by:December 11, 2006
Number of swap partners:1
Description:

Here's a different kind of swap that will involve more INTERACTION with your partner. Each person in the swap will create a list of items for their partner to find. (Be realistic, we can't be sending spray-painted tires across the country.)

Once the swap is closed (or before if you're eager), post your LIST for your partner to find in the comments section of the swap. December 10th is when your items must be SENT by, not to get your list.

List Rules

Make a list of 10 ITEMS and your partner will choose at least 6 to find/make. Don't be TOO specific, some things cannot be found in all parts of the world. $10 min.. have fun with it. International, okay!! Keep the item requests realitively small so people are not shelling their life savings for postage. They can be items from around the house, new items to purchase, or items that somebody can create if they don't happen to find anything. You may make your own list Thanksgiving/Christmas themed if you like.

It's a twisted concept to swapping but hopefully we get some people interested and a positive experience from the swap. Very low ratings will be removed. If this is your first swap, you are more than welcome to join.

gem 11/ 1/2006 #

Y'know this sounds totally fun and is a really unique swap. I gotta scan through my current art "to-do's" first and see what I have lined up before I commit to this but hopefully I'll be back to sign up - just wanted to say cool idea, Nikigee! ~ gem ~

sultrypeacock 11/ 1/2006 #

Very interesting concept! I think I will have to be part of its success! :) --Peacock

jenniferfromsandiego 11/ 1/2006 #

I was wondering if there was a price limit to these items. I cannot afford diamond rings or such. It sounds fun and it would be a good challenge....

user960 11/ 1/2006 #

Would it be easier if we posted our scavenger hunt lists here in the comments rather than emailing? That way we don't have to wait to send our emails, and it might reduce the chances of people forgetting to post their lists ... maybe. ;D

user1746 11/ 1/2006 #

Great idea, I swore i wasn't going to do any more swaps, but this one really caught my eye. And I do think you should put a price limit on the total amount of hunt items....that way Jennifer's concern will be met. I'd say to keep the items easily mailable to limit the whole thing to no more than ten dollars...that makes folks get creative with what they are asking for.

sultrypeacock 11/ 1/2006 #

How about a list of 10 items totalling a maximum of 10 dollars expenditure?

sultrypeacock 11/ 1/2006 #

Oh, I guess I missed the "6 items" requirement! silly peacock!! so--how about a list of "6 items" totalling a 'maximum of 10 US dollars' ?

speaking of which! is this an international swap?

sultrypeacock 11/ 1/2006 #

Oh!! expanded idea-- what if the list were 10 items, and the send requirement were 6 items from that list?

glassgrrl 11/ 2/2006 #

I like that idea - find 6 of 10 things. It would make it a little easier. I wonder if we are also free to perhaps loosely interpret some of the items, in case we can't find the exact thing?

roberta51503 11/ 2/2006 #

this sounds like a lot of fun,and I agree the interpretaions could provide some amusement if an item can'e be found easily. putting the list here it will be fun to see what everyone has come up with for their partner to find.

user1449 11/ 3/2006 #

I really like the feedback you guys came up with. Let's go with the 6 of 10, $10 area. I will EDIT the swap page when my browser works a little better/faster.

International is okay, too!

SORRY for such a lack of clarification, this is only the 2nd swap I created.

user1746 11/17/2006 #

Here's my list in no particular order: I'm an assemblage artist in the style of Michael De Meng, Keith Lobue, Janet Hofacker (not quite in their league yet but working on it) so I love things I can incorporate into assemblages. Items that would fall into that catagory would be a little jar of rusty nails, old keys, rusty pieces of scrap metal, found objects like a container of broken costume jewelery pieces, old buttons, scraps of lace, old flashbulbs, hardware such as an old doorknob, hinge those kind of things. I would especially treasure such things as old doll heads, especially baby doll heads showing lots of age (think porcelain or molded rubber not necessarily modern dolls). I go crazy for electronic ephemera, transistors, tiny little bulbs, relays, capacitors, fuses. (My jewelry idol is Susan Lenart Kazmer, go to her website to see her wild jewelry incorporating found objects). Other things of interest: fridge magnets (I have tons of them, they almost all lean toward the funny, man bashing, or politcally left leaning ones, also Happy Bunny ones, Family Guy, American Dad; but I also collect interesting ones from places I've visited, I have several ones from the Painted Cow/Painted Pony shows that have been in various cities...most of my funny ones have come from the company ephemera-inc). I absolutely adore those little boxes you see at places like Barnes and Noble, these are like "Therapist in a box", Beach in a box", mini zen garden in a box, or the one I'm looking at now: Welcome to the Rat Race" no one ever gives me one of these I always have to buy one for myself; I love Family Guy and American Dad cartoons...anything from those two shows would be cool (Spencer's Gifts are carrying a variety of items on these two shows). Paper Ephemera, vintage items such as old food labels, perscription labels, old interesting advertising from magazines, (60's and older); vintage post cards or photos of "real people"...black and white or sepia unless the color pics are ever so 1960' or 70's. Miniature things used in doll houses (I tend to look for things that can be put in shadow boxes things like little household items, small chairs, hat boxes, food collections etc). Cat related things (small stuffed animals, little books about cats, kitty themed pins or necklaces (don't wear earrings or bracelets to speak of). One thing I absolutely do not find funny nor would I want are anything that depicts cruelty to animals of any kind, so I don't find the book/calendar "Bunnies guide to suicide" or "How to Kill a Cat" funny, even remotely.
And finally, if you can't find any of the things on my list, you may, instead of tearing your hair out to find these things and worry about the mailing of it at Christmas season, make a donation of the amount you would have spent doing this, to one of the animal charities I support: Wildlife Warriors; United Animal Nations; or Pasado's Safe Haven. Send me a card letting me know you made the donation and i'll trust that you really did. Thanks, Happy Holidays.

Also, I am HIGHLY allergic to cigarette smoke. Please do not be offended because I am allergic to all smoke. We can not even have a real fire in our beautiful fireplace. We have to use gas logs. Hey.. we have a member that has decided not to participate..

Glassgrrl, the person who is sending to you has been changed so when you receive the package, PLEASE don't rate who the swap tells you to rate. We don't want somebody's credit to go somewhere else.

Thanks :)

user4899 11/30/2006 #

I mailed my package to Barbara (brbbritt0720) today! Hope you enjoy it!

sultrypeacock 11/30/2006 #

I got my package today!! I think I love the little sculpey peacock! (and (though I hate to admit it) I think he is better than anything I've ever managed to do with sculpey!! I so suck at modeling clay!) He is definitely going to go on my holiday tree! :)

I love it all, actually, but the little handmade peacock is just so sweet! Thank you for trying something that you weren't sure was going to come out well!

(PS the bead bracelet and the earings are fab!! really wonderful. :) but the peacock makes me smile and laugh and think maybe it's okay to be less than perfect. ;) )

brbbritt 12/ 2/2006 #

Debra (Scrapbooking Crazy)- I received my package today and I love it. Everything is so cute! The snowman thimble has already found a spot on my tree. My daughter loved the reindeer necklace. user5056 12/ 2/2006 #

Hi Barbara (brbbritt0720),

I am glad your package arrived safely and that you liked everything! You took a great picture! I took one, but I like yours better. I am going to e-mail you a picture of a snowman made from a can that your daughter can make, if she would like.

Debra (ScrapbookingCrazy)

glassgrrl 12/ 5/2006 #

Meghan, your package is on the way. The box was a little crushed to begin with, and nothing inside is particularly breakable, so don't panic if it arrives looking somewhat crumpled.

user1449 12/ 8/2006 #

nerk76 - your package is heading out today :). I really hope you enjoy it.

brbbritt 12/11/2006 #

HOW CAN I RATE MY PARTNER???

There is no place on this swap to rate the person who sent items to me. Can someone please tell me how to do this?

Thank You, ScrapbookingCrazy

user4899 12/15/2006 #

WOW - This is only my fifth swap on Swap-Bot and the host of the swap was my sender!! Niki your package arrived today! Thanks so much -- its hard to pick a favorite thing! I'll take a picture and post it soon. YOU MADE MY WEEK (its been a rough one!) -nerk76 *Melanie

user4899 12/15/2006 #

ScrapbookingCrazy -- you usually have to wait 7 days after the swap is due, to rate your partner. This swaps due date was the 11th, so you should be able to rate them around the 18th. The due date is the day its suppose to be sent by, not recved by, so that gives them 7 days for it to arrive after the very last day to send! Hope that helps!!

user5056 12/15/2006 #

????POSTING PHOTOS????

I uploaded a photo of what my partner sent me, but it is not there. Do you have to wait a while for it to be posted?

Sorry for so many questions. This was my first swap.

Thanks, Debra

rutabaga 12/19/2006 #

thanks meghan! i love everything you scavenged :)

glassgrrl 12/19/2006 #

Hey Maghan, I posted your package quite a while ago, will you let me know if it's arrived?

user4619 12/20/2006 #

Oh My Gosh! I'm so sorry I forgot to post my thank-you! I loved everything sooo much! Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

glassgrrl 12/20/2006 #

Thanks Meghan, I'm glad to know it arrived safely.

glassgrrl 12/20/2006 #

Lighthouse, the fantastic package concocted by you and your sister arrived today; I'm just sorry I can't give you rating credit for it! I've spread all the enticing little parcels out and taken my time to open each one. It's not a thing to be rushed, but treasured. I've managed to save the super special chocolate for last, but how much longer will I be able to wait?..... Thank your for all the delights. A snail mail reply will be in the works very soon! cheers, clarissa

lighthouse 12/20/2006 #

Clarissa, I'm so glad that you got the package! It was a great pleasure and fun for us to prepare all those things for you :-)Enjoy!

glassgrrl 12/27/2006 #

Meghan, if you're still around, why did you give me a rating of 3?

user4219 12/28/2006 #

How WONDERFUL! I received my scavenger hunt goodies today...my birthday which made it even more special....from wren on the run and it was so much fun. Wren you went over and above with sending 9 out of 10 instead of the six that was asked for. Thank you so much for putting together such a great package for me :o)

FingersInc 01/20/2007 #

I'm a bit discouraged, "Different" had my name, and I have not heard a word ! My list was pretty wide open, I even said I was easily amused... but not any more ! Gave this graphic designer a rating of 1, but said I would change if I got something.
