Description:

So you will look up your state/country/city/region. Now go to a fabric store and find a fabric that reflects something about your location.

Example I live in Kansas. Kansas is the "wheat state" and the "sunflower state". It also had a rather famous movie called The Wizard of OZ. So any of those could be the theme of the fabric. Ruby red shoe fabric? Sunflower fabric? Who knows what I will find. I suddenly hope to find flying money fabric... Or Glenda the good witch fabric.... How cool would that be?

Anyway, I have state animals, a motto, and even more regional stuff if I want to look at my local city!

You will buy 18 inches of fabric, cut into a fat square and mail one to your partner and keep the other.

A FQ is 18 by 22 inches.

I think that is it.

Edit to add: this is a a quilting FQ swap so 100% cotton.

Edit: dec 8: ok, I am moving the date up to the 14 th to sign up, reason being is that I am traveling come dec. 15 and want to ensure swap partner assignment. If this a problem I am sorry. The last day to send is still the same!

Also I would love to do a themed FQ swap based on a quote of some sort. Any suggestions for a quote? Can be a famous person or just a snarky quote.

TEXAS!!!!! Believe me, I can find more TEXAS stuff than in anyone can find in their state! Does your state have state memorabilia stores virtually anywhere you go in that state? Do people create garden beds in the shape of your state? Do they have garden stepping stones in your state's shape? I've lived in Nebraska, Iowa, and Indiana before Texas, and I've never seen a state-themed store in any of those states. Do you realize that creating a Texas shaped garden bed in your front yard looks like nothing recognizable from the sidewalk? This swap is MEANT for me! REMEMBER--Texas was briefly an independent country, and they have never forgotten that! :-) Actually, all I need is a yellow rose and a "Hook 'em" horns item!

I know Kansas has a few stores that are all about Kansas. But most hit on the oz theme rather hard!

I have my fabric all ready for this. I just need to write up my book report to go with it (I found some cool facts that go with my fabric that I just have to share, all nerd-like).

MamaMay 12/14/2012 #

LOL! You would! I love that you are writing a report to share!

I am now impatiently waiting to assign partners! I can not wait to get this party rolling!

PeggyO 12/30/2012 #

I found all kinds of things to make some note cards as extras to add for my partner, but I haven't found any TEXAS fabric other than fleece for the UT Hook'em Horn, Texas A&M, etc. Surely some Texas fabric exists--the state is totally narcissistic! ;-)

I am sure you will find something!

PeggyO 12/31/2012 #

I'm sure I will locate something that is workable! I'm getting out this afternoon--hopefully ahead of the rain we are expecting in afternoon and evening. Have a Happy New Year!

Yea, I am staying in today. We are getting snow. Only about an inch but I have no intention of dressing three kiddos to go out shopping.

PeggyO 12/31/2012 #

Oh, gee--why not? ;-) I lived in the mid-west until moving to Houston for my (now ex-husband's) job with Schlumberger. My daughter was 2 when we moved here, but we did get enough of bundling up just ONE kiddo to get out in the winter. Yet, I actually miss having real autumn and winter weather even after living in Houston since 1977! I was horrified by the first summer (6 months long!) and have still not learned to like this climate!

I did beat the rain and found some perfect Texas cowboy boots fabric! I knew there had to be something available!

Happy New Year!
