Description:

Changed this to 1 partner and a couple extra blocks due to my extremely LOW budget for swap-bot. Also giving extra time for creating/shipping due to the holidays

This is such a simple quilt block and it's definitely addictive!! So get out your scraps and leftover jelly roll strips and join us. We will be making 6 blocks for our partner. This swap is for all levels of quilters. It doesn’t matter - you just need to be accurate.

INSTRUCTIONS: We will use the foundation fabric method. This means that we use a piece of muslin or flannel as the base for our square, to stabilize the square and also to make it easier to put it together. Please use this method –do not use the paper piecing method. The blocks we are making will be 6 ½ inches . I would recommend that you make your fabric base about 6 ¾-7 inches, so that if there is any “shrinkage” due to sewing, there is a bit of extra room to compensate for it, and you can just trim the squares after you are done.

REMINDERS: --- It is very important to iron each strip down as you sew it. --- The same fabric can only be used in a square 2 times. --- The squares are supposed to be scrappy. The scrappier the better! So please don’t try to coordinate things. Just grab a strip and sew. --- Strips should VARY IN WIDTH, BUT BE NO WIDER THAN 1 ½ inches UNFINISHED (BEFORE being sewn down). This will allow for the squares to have about 10-14 different fabrics each. --- Please use decent quality 100% cotton fabric.

RULES (sorry about that): --- You must have a rating of at least 4.90 with no “1”s in the last 3 months. --- You need to have at least 10 mailed/package swaps that you have been rated for. --- I will review each profile before partners are assigned, and reserve the right to remove you from the swap if need be. --- If there are “circumstances”, email me and we will try to work things out.

I cannot angel this but will try and find someone who can.

Also, you don't really need to wait til partners are assigned. So get out the old machine, and have some fun!!! Hope you will join us!

this is so much fun. I can't wait till I get enough to make at least a lap quilt with all my pieces. I will angel for you if you need it.

I've had a lot of success making this size block by making one larger one, usually 14-15" and cutting it into quarters after I trim it to 13" x 13". Making two of these larger ones will give you eight blocks, some to swap, some to keep!

The only downside is needing longer strings to begin the block with, but I use noodles I cut off all my new pieces of fabric, at the 44" length.

sorry for the delay... Christmas craziness! Assigning partners today and extending the deadline a couple of days.

Questions: 1) The link discusses variations on page 6. Are the squares supposed to have the strips on the diagonal, or doesn't it matter? 2) Above it is mentioned that the strips can vary in width from each other; can the individual strips vary along the length, or is the intent for each strip to be essentially the same width?

I'd love to know when you post the third round of this swap. I had so much fun making squares for my partner that I made lots of extras :) Hopefully squares for the next round will be 6.5" too!

mariejessie--these blocks are intended to be scrappy, so generally the strips can be pretty odd in width, like long thin triangles, or just sews on at a little angle to be a little wonky, and generally they should be diagonally placed, I think most of us are doing them that way, but ask your partner if you want to do them different. I prefer them diagonally myself, and I make them that way, too. I like the overall pattern created for the quilt top when they are assembled that way.
