Description:

Inspired by the stash stack club at Pink Castle Fabrics -- This will be a series of swaps (one color per month) to build a well rounded stash of blender fabrics that can be used in any project.

For January the color will be purple. Buy 2 yards of fabric and cut them into fat quarters. Keep one FQ of each fabric for yourself, then mail one FQ of fabric A, and one FQ of fabric B to each of 3 partners. You’ll end up with 8 FQ’s per month. Easy right?

The specifics:

Buy 100% cotton QUILT SHOP QUALITY fabrics. Don’t buy a 99 cent FQs from JoAnn and call it a day. Please aim to buy premium quilting weight fabrics. I won’t restrict it to designer fabrics since they can be pricey, but if you’re going to get it from a chain store, make sure it is high quality and that you would want to use it on your own projects. I’d say around $10 per yard retail is a reasonable price (of course you can buy it on sale to save some money). HERE is an article on how to judge fabric quality.

No solids The fabrics should “read” one color, but have some sort of print. If you need ideas, check out the stash builders section at Pink Castle Fabrics, or search blenders by color on other sites. ETA: please no Batiks HERE is a lovely stash building tutorial.

Choose fabrics that can be used in virtually any project (i.e. NO holiday, cartoon, novelty prints, etc.)

Here’s the schedule in case anyone wants to buy ahead:

  • January -- Purple

  • February -- Aqua/Turquoise

  • March -- Green

  • April -- Yellow

  • May -- Red

  • June -- Grey

  • July -- Pink

  • August -- Navy

  • September -- Indigo

  • October -- Lime/Citron

  • November -- Orange

  • December -- Brown/Beige

USA only due to the 2013 shipping rate increase. 4.95 rating, no recent 1s or 3s, and please have at least 20 type 2 or 3 swaps under your belt. The send date is the end of January, so shop for deals now :) Hopefully nobody flakes, but if anyone would be willing to buy a couple extra half yards to angel please let me know.

If you received 2 FQ of high quality quilting fabric in the specified color from each partner, rate a 5. You can not rate down based on taste.

Any questions? Feel free to email me, or comment below :)

Wow, I would love to join, watching in case I manage enough private by the sign up date!

siouxx05 12/11/2012 #

Waaaah.. No batiks... :(

siouxx05 12/11/2012 #

Oh poop, now I see it is USA only!

beadqueene 12/11/2012 #

@siouxx05 Sorry Sue! Feel free to start an international one if you'd like, I just wanted to keep postage down since it's going to be a year-long series.

MamaMay 12/11/2012 #

Yea, the now batiks get me too. I almost want one that is like this with different colored batiks! Can you imagine!

JLVerde 12/12/2012 #

I'll be joining one of these once I have my rating up high enough (I see this is an ongoing one, so I'll have plenty of time to catch it later in the year).

beadqueene 12/17/2012 #

@mamamay and @jlverde feel free to join now and I'll make sure I take a look at your profiles and get in touch with you both before the swap starts :)

MamaMay 12/26/2012 #

Ok, well, since you say we can join, I will. But I totally get it if you want me to bow out if I don't have the required swaps.

MamaMay 01/ 2/2013 #

So I have bought the fabric! I am all set!

JaMaJo 01/ 6/2013 #

You are just to send to two partners, right, and then the third would be for yourself. I didn't quite understand that part. Thanks!

beadqueene 01/ 6/2013 #

Three partners... You get 4 fat quarters from a yard so you keep 1fq of each fabric and send the other 6 away :). Makes sense?

JaMaJo 01/ 7/2013 #

Got it! Thanks!

debhous 01/ 8/2013 #

No reds?

debhous 01/ 8/2013 #

OOPS, just saw May is red - guess I looked at typical "red " months and missed it!

MamaMay 01/ 8/2013 #

Yea, I like how it isn't typical colored months. I found my yardage on 50% off due to purples not being a popular winter color. I bought a navy already too along with an teal/aqua one.

Battlebits 01/ 9/2013 #

I just found swap-bot and was so excited to find a fabric swap! I guess I'll have to figure out how to raise my ratings so I can get in on this. I can't wait!!

beadqueene 01/ 9/2013 #

@babblebits welcome to swap-bot. I plan to do this swap monthly, so please check back once you have some type 3 swaps under your belt :)

JaMaJo 01/11/2013 #

I am thinking of signing up this one time just to see if I bought the right type fabric. I would be happy with the 1.99 fat quarters from JoAnn's. So if I sign up, feel free (whoever are my partners) to send me that. I still have a few hours to think about it. :)

bettflow09 01/11/2013 #

I would love to join in this one but I think I need to hold off til next month. Trying to get all my swaps completed and sure don't want to overextend myself:))) See ya'll next month though!!!

MamaMay 01/12/2013 #

Dang, I was hoping to mail this out to

MamaMay 01/12/2013 #

Today, but partners are not assigned. The post office closes in 30 minutes. It will have to wait until Monday I guess.

beadqueene 01/13/2013 #

@jamajo if you do decide to join in the future please follow the swap instructions and send PREMIUM quality fabric... 1.99 fat quarters are not suitable quality for something that takes as much time and effort as a quilt. I personally dont want a threadbare quilt after light use caused by low quality fabrics.

@mamamay sorry I didnt assign sooner I've been on an ATC making spree so I can clear off my dash with a huge PO drop off on Monday :). You have two weeks to send so no worries and no rush :)

MamaMay 01/13/2013 #

Yea, that is why I am not as worried about this one. I am due to give birth in feb but have a tendency to go early. I could get to the post office in a two week window but not in one week is complications happened.

beadqueene 01/14/2013 #

@mamamay good luck with the new arrival, congratulations!
