Description:

Dear Swappers, there is this darling video on Youtube about making these little folded paper thingies called "hexaflexagons" or "kaleidocycles". If you watch the video you may be inspired to make these things, as I was.

They remind me of cootie catchers or fortune tellers, but more complicated and lovely. Zentangles combined with hexaflexkaleidos would be incredible. I am in no way a math geek, but I do like puzzles, and these appeal to me greatly. I think it would be awesome to receive one made by someone else, with her aesthetic and skill applied to it.

So for this swap you will learn how to make them, and make your partner one paper hexaflexagon / kaleidocycle. Parameters: use at least three colors to decorate your object, and include at least one line design in a fourth color.

All swappers without poor ratings are welcome. I will angel. Message me if you have questions. Thanks.

Be good, play safe, go!

This is intriguing. Is there a clearer tutorial? I will look for one.

I followed this kid's tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6Q966FMVbQ&list=UU3_2Jfc8FSp6bWjmcyPuUyw

And I thought it didn't work at first, but I just didn't have the knack of it. It totally works and now I'm going to decorate it. ^_^

I'm definitely going to sign up for this once I figure out how to make these. Tried last night and wasn't successful. (This is why I'm not an engineer. LOL.) I'm going to have my son teach me.

@TC lol Glad I'm not the only non-engineer ;)

This does look like fun though. But I definitely want to make one before I commit to swapping, or some poor person might get a jumbled, sticky taped, glued everywhere mess ... lol

Ok, I managed to make a good "3- sided" one (the one made with 10 triangles), but the 6-sided one (made with 19 triangles) is still a mystery. Is this swap for one or the other, or either?

NorthernBorder 01/ 7/2013 #

Either! If you can make any kind of one, good. I just ask that you not use the pre-printed pre-decorated kind. Make your own decorations.

Awesome. I'm going to experiment some more with designs, but I'll almost certainly sign up.

I showed this video to my seven year old and she has been making these ever since! I will send mine, as well as one she made. I am kinda bummed over the line design requirement, I was hoping to make it by kaleidoscoping some scrapbooking paper or origami paper.

I am now looking forward to long, boring meetings just so I can sit and play with these. So much cooler than a smart phone.
