Description:

PLEASE NOTE: The quilt block swaps I host are meant for more experienced quilters. You will need to be at least an intermediate in your experience and skill set. Do not join unless you have the experience necessary to make these blocks. Also, read and follow instructions closely. We want to make sure all swappers get blocks that are the same size and go together so that after the swap a small quilt can be made of all the blocks.

For this swap you will have 3 partners and will send each partner 3 blocks, for a total of 9 blocks sent. You have the whole month to work on these, so don't feel rushed.

The tutorial is here: Box quilt block

The tutorial shows a white back ground and 2 tones of 1 color for each quadrant. We are going to follow this set up. For the 4 different quadrants use 4 different color schemes so there's a nice mix. Solid white cotton is best for the background so that when the blocks are put together they flow well. Though, if you want to use a subtle off-white on white pattern and your pattern is ok with that go for it.

Make sure to follow the tutorial carefully. Everyone should receive blocks that have the same pattern and measure 12-1/2 inches on each side. When the quilt is completely finished the block should be 12"

This is a great swap if you have a lot of substantial scraps you want to get rid of. Mix up the colors, this quilt will look really nice if there's not a lot of pattern repeat. Just make sure they are 100% cotton. New fabric is best, unless your partner is ok with vintage material.Fabrics used are sender's choice but try to take your partners tastes into account.

No newbies. Must have completed at least 5 type 3 swaps and have a rating of 4.8 or better. No 1's or 3's in the last 6 months.I will check. I may make exceptions for newbies who haven't been rated yet. I will also check to see if you've done quilting swaps before. If not I may ask you to send me photo verification of your ability to quilt. Message me if you've done swaps but just haven't been rated. If you don't get anything from your partner let me know.

I find this a very interesting block. I like your block taste.

This kind of stinks. I am an experienced quilter and I understand that we have to go thru the beginning trial BUT how am i to get exp ratings when there isn't a lot of item to choose from? Disappointed Amy

@whiskygirl you could join non quilt block swaps to get your rating up. There are a lot of fabric swap that are going now, some are easy (like trading "ugly" fat quarters). They're type 3 swaps, too.

Or you can do private swaps. I'm always open to do a private swap if you want to swap fabric.

(oh, you'll also want to fill out your profile--a lot of swaps will take newbies but not if you don't fill out your profile, at least a bit)

@whiskygirl07 @JLVerde is right. I just want to make sure people are somewhat vetted before doing a swap that takes more than the normal amount of time, skill and materials then other swap. I have already been burned twice by people who had never quilted before signing up for swaps and then sending horrible blocks to their partners Join my ugly FQ swaps and other swaps. Once you have some rating you can send me some pics of other blocks you've done

Hi - I am an experienced quilter who would like to join this swap even though I just joined Swap-Bot. I am a prof. long arm quilter (quiltingbyjanice.com). I have printed off the directions for making the Box Quilt block and will start working on them - if I am able to join, great - otherwise I will do a small quilt for my studio Looking forward to hearing from you. Janice
