Ok-I have been making lots of bird dotees/ornaments of late-especially for a swap series I host called "Little Birds.." (see my profile page) that is loosely based on an article in a past issue of Cloth.Paper,Scissors called "word birds". If you google CPS magazine you should be able to find the article. :) Anyway! Let's put together a baggie with all the "fixings" of a "little bird" for our partner. What does that entail? _ fabric or paper cut out in the shape of a small (dotee sized-3" to 6") bird and it's wings. _ batting/stuffing if it is to be a fabric bird (you are only going to need a very small amount!) or paperboard (say from a cereal box) if you are sending paper _ beads/charms etc. to embellish your bird (scrapbooking embellishments work well, actually! I also use buttons, pom poms and feathers!) _ ribbon or wire to hang the bird as you would a dotee _ an encouraging word or saying to attach to the bird. This can be any form you want-a small charm, preprinted ribbon, something written on a fabric scrap, etc. Your partner will supply her own thread and glue :) Oh-I should suggest that,if you are going the fabric route you sew up the bird's body, leaving a hole for stuffing, for your partner. That way,if he/she does not have a sewing machine, or is not terribly handy with sewing, they will only need to sew up a small hole after stuffing! Not profile specific.I'm just going to suggest something cheerful and spring like.Maybe it will brighten the day for those of us who do not always get actual springtime (more like fall all over again.Certainly, here in Maine April and November are interchangable!)! :D |
