Description:

My First Junk Journal (using a composition notebook) - I have always wanted to try my hand at making these, so today is the day I put a swap up for those who want to try with me. If you are not new at junk journalling, you can still join, just be understandable that this is for people who havent done junk journals before or maybe just still new at it.

Requirements:

Get a Composition note book , the 'cow printed' looking ones. Wal Mart has them pretty cheap.

This book will be made for our partner. Do not fill it up with your own entries, just get it ready for your partner to be able to use it for their liking when they receive it.

Inside cover of back, write your real name Swap btt name. Date . Email-and where you are from.

If you are not sure on what to do once you create the front and back covers... take a look at the ideas below. I will also post some links.

IDEAS: Use scrapbook paper, cut to size , to cover the pages.

Every 10-15 pages wad or fold up a couple of pages and create a page for your partner to write.

Tie a ribbons throughout the book so it will stay together well.

Add pockets to pages for your partner.

Tags, ribboned (or not) paper clips, Brads, stamped images, flowers, quotes from magazines or written/stamped/ sticked, etc.

This is senders choice so go ahead and start. If you would like, you can leave a comment below of your favorite color and themes but just remember its senders choice.

Junk Journals intrigue me. I'm not very crafty and I'm not artistic at all with drawing or anything, but I think I might be able to do something like this. Dunno. Gonna keep an eye out, may have to try. Like that you're doing it for newbies so hopefully it doesn't have to be perfect! :)

I would love to do this one but it said that I do not meet the minimum rating to join

This sounds really interesting. I'm watching the videos and checked the pinterest, but I feel like I still need more info. I don't understand what "Every 10-15 pages wad or fold up a couple of pages and create a page for your partner to write" means. :/

Also, if we are making this for our partner to fill out/fill up, is it profile-based? That is, are we required to lean towards our partner's likes and avoid her/his dislikes?

Thanks!

Oh, haha. I somehow skipped the paragraph about it being sender's choice. Sorry. Ignore me!

I have made MANY of these. One suggestion: glue sticks will not hold for very long. You make a lovely book and send it off only to have it fall apart when it reaches its destination. Spray adhesive works great for large pieces to glue in. Turn your paper you want glue on upside down in a cardboard box to prevent overspray and spray with adhesive. Pick up and lay flat press down where you want it in your book. Do this outside or you will have one sticky house;-). Or you can use Elmer's glue but you must brush on VERY lightly or your lovely work will buckle:). Another good but not very cheap alternative is high gloss gel medium brushed on. I have us edit in collage on very very thin papers and it works great, but brush on very thin...

Thanks for the tip @wolfcreekartistry ! I will go out and get some spray adhesive, as I was honestly going to use a gluestick!

Folks... I've never found anything that works better than good old rubber cement for sticking papers together. Use the "dry to dry" method described on the bottle/can.... works great. Yup... it's that goopy old junk we used to buy for school when we were in the 1st grade (a million years ago)... but it still works, and cleans up beautifully. It's available at most hobby/craft shops in the adhesives sections.

Do we send these back to our partners?

jinxspinx 05/22/2013 #

@vanitygirl , we make these books FOR our partners.

What's the difference between a junk journal and a SMASHbook? I think I'm a little confused.......
