Description:

Pioneer Day is coming upon us really fast! And it seems like the wards I've lived in in the past few years don't do much to celebrate, and I miss that! So I thought we might celebrate the holiday by making a pioneer craft - spoon dollies! I love spoon dolles and hope you do, too. Maybe we'll even make a family of them!

We'll start with the mama. 'cause she's the center of the family and the home. Use a NEW wooden spoon and create a spoon doll from it. Give her a face, hair, clothes, bonnet, etc. Dress her like a pioneer woman. You can give her movable arms and legs or not, your choice. Arms and legs can be wooden or stuffed, or even made from rope! She actually doesn't have to have legs, but she DOES have to have arms. Make a stand of some kind for her, to hold her upright. (I like to make a little wooden heart with a hole to fit the handle of the spoon and then paint the heart like two shoes. Just an idea.)

The picture above is one I made for a swap last year. The photo is kind of small, but I made her arms and hands from twisted raffia with a knot tied in the middle.( And I included some little thing for each season for her to hold in her hands.)

Here is a link to some directions if you need them. And you can Google spoon dolls or wooden spoon dolls and find lots of pics. Most of them are kids' craft ideas, but they might give you some ideas. And here is my flickr page with more ideas.

I'm going to allow all LDS Swappers to join, becasue I believe we will all follow through. This includes newbies, too, as long as you have a well-filled-out profile.

I can't wait to get started. Have fun and think of the pioneers as you make your dolly.
