I have been doing this in another group, and thought I would try it out here. If there is enough interest, I would love to make this an on-going swap, in an effort to collect enough squares to make a nice sized quilt. Crazy Quilting (aka Crazy Patchwork) ...used to be a means to use up what was in the scrap bin. Ladies would use all types of fabric in these patchwork quilts, and showcase their embroidery skills at the same time. The results are quite stunning! You can do an internet search and come up with some wonderful pictures, and ideas. About This Swap: You will make ONE square for ONE partner, and this is open to ALL group members, so it will be international so please be aware of this. The completed square will measure 12 1/2 inches, with the outer edges left unfinished, so the squares can be sewn together at a later date. We will be using a flip and sew method. This tutorial shows what I mean. Although this tutorial shows a 9inch block, we will be making ours 12 ½ inches. Please try to use at least 5 different fabrics (colors, patterns, textures, etc.) does not have to be 100% cotton quilting fabric, you can whatever you like, this is a great way to use up those odds and ends you have in your stash, and not quite sure what to do with- pieces should be different shapes and sizes Embellish the square - “go crazy” you can do traditional hand-embroidery, or you can do “fancy” machine embroidery, you can also add things such as lace, ribbon, trims, buttons, etc. Since this is a group swap we shouldn’t have any “issues”, but if something unforeseen does happen, please let me and you partner know, so we can work things out, and if need be I will angel this swap. Let’s go “crazy” and have fun doing it! |
