Description:

Handmade postcard time. The postcards can be anything from newspaper clipping collages, quick oil or watercolor paintings, sketches with a pen, photography ... pretty much anything the post office will accept as deliverable mail.

NO generic photo cards, gift shop city postcards, or the free ones you find in some bars.

This swap is open to all. I just ask that you email an image of the postcards you sent, along with your name and the person it was mailed to to be put in the gallery.

I have a question, I usually use cereal box etc. cardboard for the base of my post cards. Because I thought it would look nicer, I was glueing a piece of paper on the side I would write on. Then I got thinking, am I just adding to the trash problem? Would anyone think my cards ugly because I didn't cover the cardboard? Just a thought,as I like to recycle and help the earth every chance I get.

Martha Stewart has Postcard templates that you can download off from her site- and messy- I keep my postcards so no, you aren't adding to the trash problem but if you sent it to me like that I wouldn't think ewwww----just use a bright colored pen. If you work.. maybe you could keep sheets from work and recycle onto your pc?

Messy, they would be fine with me. In fact I just cut some things from a cereal box today. Not sure what will become of 'them' but I have them. ;-)

Are pasted cross-stitches or any textile-based materials made to make a postcard allowed by the POs? In fact, are there any rules on which materials are allowed by POs on postcards?

redleppard 05/ 3/2008 #

I actually like cereal boxes used for postcard bases - I just do my collage on the printed side.

Mine are on their way..... http://sunnysidey.blogspot.com/2008/05/post-due-handmade-postcard-7.html

I personally think that cardboard looks pretty damn cool! The less you stick on the less there is to get messed up in the mail too. x

meganfaye 05/ 4/2008 #

In response to blackbody, i think that textile based materials are allowed by the Post Offices. I heard that back in the first world war, soldiers used to buy hand stitched postcards abroad to send home to their wives. I think textile postcards sound like a lovely idea..

I think its fun to test the limits of the post offices. One guy i knew posted an apple with the address stuck on a label, and he said that got through to his friend alright (though possibly a bit bashed).

I have absolutely no luck uploading to the gallery here, so I posted my cards, Where To? and Eat Your Greens on my Flickr account.

wackystuff 05/ 5/2008 #

I have uploaded my cards to the slideshow and mailed them to Brenda and Rob.

blackbody 05/ 5/2008 #

Thank you for clearing that up meganfaye! I won't do the apple mail though, it might make one mess of a postcard. :D

dina54 05/ 8/2008 #

Wackystuff inspired me to upload my cards before I mailed them. I was confused by the instructiions (DOH!) that say take a picture or the cards you RECEIVE and upload them. I suppose I could do that too. I wish more people would upload theirs; Come on peeps, show everyone your cool PCs.

MsAzadi 05/ 9/2008 #

Wackystuff, I see only one card from you. ???

My question is some of what Dina mentions...it says to "I just ask that you email an image of the postcards you sent, along with your name and the person it was mailed to to be put in the gallery."

I presume the email should be UPLOAD??

2. What size are you uploading WS? pixel size i.e.

I sent mine today and scanned them first.

MsAzadi 05/ 9/2008 #

hmmmm...no idea how that question got in that size/bold. Not my action and no html. Weird.

Finally sent them. To my partners, PostMuse & happypup, I'm really sorry for the delay.

sunnysidey 05/26/2008 #

Had trouble uploading my pics postdue, so I've sent them to you via email.

blackbody 07/ 5/2008 #

Oh no! One of the postcards I've sent (for happypup) had just returned, with a "No such number" stamp. :(
