Description:

It's impossible to capture the beauty of these collages in a photograph! The aluminum foil shines through single layers of tissue while pieces of layered tissue create new tones and colors as they overlap.

For this project you will design one collage for one partner. The collage may be realistic or abstract. The completed piece will be mailed "naked" as a postcard.

Materials:

  • Cardboard

  • Aluminum foil

  • Colored tissue paper

  • Diluted Mod Podge or watered-down glue

  • Tape

  • Scissors

  • Paintbrush

Directions:

  1. Cut a piece of cardboard to the size and shape you desire for your completed postcard.

  2. Tightly wrap a piece of aluminum foil, shiny side up, around the cardboard and secure it to the back with tape.

  3. Cut shapes from pieces of colored tissue paper.

  4. Brush diluted Mod Podge or glue on the aluminum foil.

  5. Place the tissue paper shapes on the wet foil and gently brush additional glue over the surface.

  6. Allow first-layer shapes to dry slightly before adding more tissue paper. The entire surface of the aluminum foil should eventually be covered by at least one layer of tissue paper; however, the foil will not shine through areas where several layers of tissue are applied.

  7. After the art has completely dried, adhere a second piece of cardboard to the back to cover the taped foil and create a writing surface.

  8. On this surface, write your username, swap name, the title of your piece and a brief note along with your partner's name and address.

  9. Please let your partner know if mailing your piece without an envelope is prohibited by your post office.

This is an amazing technique! And blending the colors along the edges is a blast! TFS!!

Worked on mine yesterday - fantastic technique. Thanks for sharing and posting this awesome swap!

Fun, isn't it? Do either of you have a better picture to post as an example? I couldn't get mine to photograph well.

Let me try to photograph what I have and see if they are any better. Yours looks great!

Can't get the real effect in my photo's. It looks really cool in person though. Oh, did that sound baggy or what!? I meant the outcome of the technique looks really cool when completed!

Laura - That's what I've discovered, too. The real piece looks so cool, but the photos make it appear blah. There must be a trick that I don't know about for photographing shiny things.

I didn't like my first attempt, so I sent attempt two. Hope you like it.

This is one I made in Utah while LDD and I were visiting @spotteddogs - it caught the light - maybe because I used only one layer of tissue on the sky part and the overhead light was at an angle to the PC:

Even wooden windows sometimes depend on some form of aluminum reinforcement. While wood and vinyl windows used to have higher energy resilience, aluminum windows are just as reliable when they have a thermally insulated glazing system. aluminum door for bathroom

I've always pretty much wanted a handmade pc for myself, but I haven't exactly been able to look properly. I think https://www.sjhmalu.com/product/new-energy-automotive-aluminum-alloy-motor-housing wasn't exactly the right place in this case either. At least not for me.

The directions given here don't work well at all to be honest. If you want proper directions, just visit goldapple-alu.com. You'll be much better off to be honest.
