I am LOVING the pages I have gotten from this swap and combined with the pages I make myself, my dictionary is startig to grow. I hope everyone else is loving it too. It is time to move on to the Letter D. The idea is to take a page from an old dictionary, I found a perfect one at a used book store for $2. (You could use a newer dictionary also or even a copy of a dictionary page, just "age" it a little.) The page should be no smaller than 5 x 7 and no larger than 9 x 7.I think these dimensions will fit nicely into most books that folks might use, mine is 9 x 7. You highlight one word on the page- in this case a word begnning with the letter "C"- and then decorate the page. I took a composition book and decorated the front cover to use as my altered dictionary. I am saving several pages for each letter so I can have several pages from others for each letter. I paste in the pages I get from others. When I make a page, I make two...one for my partner and one for myself. When it is finished I will have a nice altered dictionary with my own art and art from others. Instead of creating an entire altered dictionary, you might just want to insert your pages into a Smash book or art journal. In order to get through the alphabet in a reasonable amount of time, we need to do 2 letter pages a month but they really are pretty quick to do and very inexpensive to mail. Joining one or a few doesn't commit you to the whole alphabet but I hope we have at least a few who want to stick it out through the whole alphabet! I have found that creating a page like this is a great "warm-up" exercise and gets my creativity going. If I have been clear as mud or left something out, please let me know or ask a question below. Thanks and come make an Altered Dictionary with us! |
