Description:

I've done NaNoWriMo a few years now, and am convinced that while no amount of preparation really gets a writer ready for it, every little bit of inspiration and help along the way counts towards that final word goal.

For this swap, you will send your partner goodies and supplies for their Nanowrimo. What you send is up to you, but can include writing utensils, coffee beans, lists of random words, aromatherapy candles to help your partner relax, an energy drink--use your imagination to put together a package that will really help your partner get to their 50,000 words!

Feel free to leave a comment on the genre you will be writing, so that your partner may take that in to consideration. If you'd prefer not to receive food or drink items, please note that as well.

  • Value of swap is approximately $15.00.
  • Must be rated in at least 5 physical swaps, with a rating of at least 4.8.
  • International welcome.

I've always wanted to do NaNoWriMo but have never actually gotten to it. Hopefully this will inspire me to try this time around!

Maybe consider doing a group with this theme? We could all start practicing a few months in advance to try and get some inspiration underway. Just a thought :)

ProudNana 05/26/2008 #

what exactly is NaNoWriMo?

howunremarkable 05/26/2008 #

Visit http://www.nanowrimo.org/ for information. It's basically a month-long challenge to write a 50,000 word novel.

ProudNana 05/26/2008 #

OH! Thank you

howunremarkable, I've been thinking about making a group for NaNoWriMo actually, but I wasn't sure if anyone would be too interested. I wanted to put some feelers out to see how people respond to the swap first. I think I will work on getting a group set up soon.

Group created!

What a great idea! I've started NaNoWriMo twice, but didn't get past the first week. Maybe this year....!

howunremarkable 05/27/2008 #

Hurray! Thanks for getting things underway. Very exciting :)

Hi folks! Newbie here. I did Nano for the first time last year and managed it in two weeks because I was unwell the first two weeks. So...it is feasible, as many hundreds know already. The thing about Nano is to get psyched up enough so that you get past that dreadful second week. I am going to finish my novel...I miss the characters, but there always seems to be something else to do lol. I might end up doing the second half of the book for this years Nano! I am not able to join in the above swap, being a brand new swap-bot member, but I can giver others support...so ask if you need help, inspiration, confidence boosting etc. Take care, Susie.

Don't feel bad TiaBel - I've attempted 3 different years and haven't succeeded yet. But I keep trying!

I did NaNo last year for the first time, it was hard work but I'm so glad I did it! I can't sign up for this swap yet, but hopefully I will soon once I get ratings for the swaps I'm currently taking part in.

Does anyone know what genre they're doing yet?

I honestly don't have a clue.

I feel the sci-fi bug itching me again... I thought by now I'd be over it, but apparently not.

howunremarkable 07/ 3/2008 #

I haven't written anything but fairly standard fiction for years, but I've had some fantasy inclinations recently...Hmm.

endiahna 07/30/2008 #

I prefer not to receive food or drinks.

I am just overwhelmed and must drop this swap. I will rejoin later if life calms down. Thank all!

greenplant 08/ 8/2008 #

I've entered it three years and not completed it once lol

I don't know if I'd be able to do it this year at all because I'm about to have my second child, but I'll keep an eye out, just in case. :)

dpphoto 08/14/2008 #

I have been wanting to try this, but I totally haven't had the time. Maybe this will give me the boost that I need to inspire a creation of some kind, even if it isn't 50,000 words! PS: I really don't like coffee!!

i've completed nanowrimo successfully four times. am considering doing it again this year, but am working on a novel so don't know if i'll really have the time. i've always been under the impression, though, that you aren't supposed to have a plot, outline, or idea formatted prior to the start of nanowrimo on nov. 1st. also, that you aren't supposed to use nanowrimo to complete unfinished works you started earlier. it's been a couple years since i've done it, so maybe the rules have changed, but i seem to remember all of that being laid out in the rules and faq's. does anyone else remember these specifications?

howunremarkable 09/24/2008 #

From what I understand, you can have some basic information to start out with (i.e. an outline or timeline of some sort, some character sketches, etc.), but you can't have any actually text written out. So you couldn't write out some paragraphs that you think would work for the story and then include them later. All text included in the novel has to be written during the month of November.

That's my understanding, at least...I could be wrong--this will be my first year!

SadTomato 09/28/2008 #

Yep, you're right. Outlines and plans, etc... are allowed. However, using NANOWRIMO to complete or continue already in-progress works isn't allowed. It's got to be a new novel, freshly started on Nov. 1.

A large Priority Mail box is en route to my partner. It has everything you need for a fabulously successful NaNoWriMo ... except your fingers on the keyboard or wrapped around a pen and journal. Enjoy!
