After the success of sounds from normal life I love part 1, I would like to initiate a second stage of this swap but this time with a different twist. In the time since I organised the first swap, I was lucky enough to land a commission with 2 other artists to make a radio show. We have called this 'the fantastical reality radio show' and you can read about it via the links in my profile. The radio show is an exploration of everyday sounds and the way people feel about the ordinary sounds that they hear in daily life. When I read through the letters that I recieved from sounds from normal life I love part 1, I thought they would make a brilliant basis for a feature in our radio show, and as well as contacting the swap-members from that swap to ask if it's OK for me to use their words as a basis for a radio feature, I thought I'd open that opportunity up to other swap-members and also refine the concept a little bit. This is set to be the first in a series of 5 e-swaps, (they are e-swaps due to timing deadlines for the radio show, and ease of distribution...) designed, all together, to comprise a really interesting engagement with the idea of everyday sounds and to form the basis of a feature on the radio show. For this swap, you will think of 3 tiny sounds (really, really quiet sound events that take place in your day...) and then you will photograph something that relates to each sound and list the sound. You will put the list and the photographs into an email and send it to 4 people on this swap list, and me, if you are happy for me to use your words and images on the radio show and website. Everything used in this swap will be credited to its original authors (i.e. you...) and hopefully at the end, participants in this swap will both have a really interesting collection of ideas relating to tiny, everyday sounds, AND the opportunity to have their observations used as the creative basis for a radio show feature. The radio show will be available for download from 27th June onwards and I'm really happy to answer any questions relating to the swap, the radio show, whatever. So... if you want to participate, please start thinking about really tiny sounds you enjoy! They might be the sound of a pin dropping, the sound of knitting with bamboo needles, the sound of a very quiet clock, the slight click that happens on a radio alarm seconds before it bursts into life. It might be the sound of a slight shift in the boiler's activities... what are the tiny sounds you have in your daily life? This is a chance to pay them some attention to hear about the sonic details of other people's lives also! |
