Description: | |
You will knit or crochet 4 7x7" squares, one each for 4 different partners. The squares MUST measure 7"x7" AFTER BLOCKING! If in doubt, go slightly smaller, as most yarns will stretch. Squares that are too big will be no good to your partner, as they will not fit with their other squares. The idea of this is that everyone will receive 4 different unique squares for your afghan, or at least enough to make a pillow. You can use whatever yarn weight you want to make the squares, the most important thing is the finished size as they will be sewn together by your recipient. This is an excellent way to use up oddments in your stash, but please only use nice quality yarn (ie - no Red Heart). Please tell your partners what yarns you have used for their squares when you send your package. You can experiment with texture, pattern, stripes, whatever you like, each square can be one solid colour, or a mixture of colours. I'm happy for people to list preferences if they have allergies, or if there is a colour that they really hate, but the idea of this is that it's a complete surprise, and you end up with something really funky! This is an international swap! Oh, and any swappers with multiple no sends or not sending the right items will be banned. New swappers are welcome. Any swappers with even 1 no send from previous 'Afghan Squares' swaps will be banned. Please ensure that you weave in the ends of your squares, and that you weave in at least 8" to stop it unravelling over time. This is important for the person who receives your squares (think how you would feel if you has lots of loose ends hanging off your afghan!), so I have made it part of the specific swap requirements. Please also block your squares before sending to ensure that they will be the right size for your partner to be able to sew them together. It would also be nice if you could include a small piece of the yarn used for each square, so that your recipient has some matching thread for sewing their squares together. Following another suggestion, please can all international mailings be done by AIRMAIL. This shouldn't cost too much as each square will be fairly light. There have been instances in other swaps with small items being sent surface, which can take up to 3 months in some cases, and the sender being given a bad rating because nothing has arrived. |
