Description:

We will be doing a series of It's in the Bag swaps. If anyone else would like to host some of them, with themes, please feel free.

While ziplocs and paper bags can be used for these swaps, I thought it would be fun to make some easy fabric bags for our partner to use as well. (These bags can also be used for other things, not just for the "It's in the Bag" swap series.)

You may make the fabric bags any way you like --- as long as there is a way to close them so that items placed in them do not fall out AND as long as they are not bulky or thick (quilting cotton is a good choice) --- but here are some easy no sew tutes:

No sew using double sided tape

No sew using fabric glue

No sew with drawstring

No sew using fusible tape

No sew using glue gun

Please make your partner 3 fabric bags that measure about 6.5" x 6.5" when closed.

Ediited Dec. 21 to add:

To keep postage costs down, please do not use bulky embellishments, and you can mail them flat.

Have fun!

Are these going to be sender's choice as to colors and style? Can they be all of the same style?

Yes and Yes

Using these for later swaps is okay and encouraged correct?

TerryF 01/14/2014 #

Yes, that's the idea. (";)

TerryF 01/22/2014 #

No - it's from one of the tutes I listed. (";)

I wanted to share this super simple gusset corner feature you can add to your flat bags. I am a beginning sewer so this was a revelation to me and was very gratifying and simple way to "gussy up" (bwahaha) my bags.

Here is the LINK but the only interesting part is halfway down the tutorial page where it says "MAKE GUSSET". Its hard to tell what it looks like finished from the photos since the bags are shown lying flat, but it looks cool in person because it gives the bag a "flat" bottom.

I think you could even add a little piece of stiff cardboard inside the bag and it would stand up. Need to try that.
