Description:

Since joining Swap-Bot, something I've fallen in love with is Whimsey Jars! I love shopping for things I can put in them and have been making some up already. I can't be the only one. I will be doing a series I call "Color Me Whimsey" Create a whimsey jar filled with the color theme of the swap. If you do every swap you will end up with a rainbow of whimsey jars plus a few extra.

For those who may be new to whimsey jars, they are jars filled with all kinds of goodies (crafts supplies, stickers, candy etc). Jars should be at least 12 oz and could be plastic or glass. However they should also be decorated on the outside. I personally use recycled pasta jars. I find they work the best. (Cleaned first of course)

This swap will be swap three and is themed to the color YELLOW. Fill your jar with items that are all or mostly YELLOW. Please send clean items. No garbage. This is not a good swap to get rid of dirty items. It may be a good opportunity to pass along some quality items you may not yourself use. Please send something you would like to receive.

Newbies allowed with filled out profile. Please no recent 1s. I will check profiles

Future Swaps include:

4-Green 5-Blue 6-Purple 7-Pink 8-Black 9-White 10-Brown/Gold 11-Gray/Silver

I'm moving dates around to give a bigger space in the swaps and relieve swap load for people.

I've never made a whimsey jar before and am so interested in making some (if my first goes well, I'd like to do the rest of the color themes :) so I'm curious as to what packaging is working to keep them safe in transit? I think I'll do glass instead of plastic. I like the aesthetics better.

Just signed up!! I have done one of these in the past (not on swap bot) and I used a plastic Ovaltine jar since it had to travel across the world to reach it's destination. :) . I hope to find another to use, but I've saved a glass jar just in case.

What's the best way to ship a glass jar, in your opinion? :)

mariewilliams810 01/28/2014 #

I do like glass better because I find it to be more beautiful. Thats my opinion. I have never had a glass jar break. When at the post office, I notify them that there is a fragile object in the box and they put a sticker on the box for me. Or you can write fragile on it yourself. I like to think that helps. I have used bubble wrap and tissue paper (lots) to pad my jar. I recently recieved a jar that was padded with scrap quilt batting. That was a great idea.

Oh good to know they're surviving. And also good packing advice. I'm excited to start!

So I have to un-sign-up for this swap because I just can't find yellow stuff. Lol! Next color I will definitely do.

I had a harder time finding some yellow stuff as well vs. the other colors. I think maybe its because its winter :) Sad to hear you dropped but glad to hear you are continuing with green.

Hi all. Sounds like everyone is enjoying this as much as I am. I've been using pint size jars and packing them to the brim. Two of the 3 jars I've received are quart sized and I don't want anyone to feel jipped. Oh great swap organizer, comments? ideas?

I'm thinking about putting up a swap...

anyone want to do one full of "Happy" (things make you smile, inspire you, cheer you up?)

mariewilliams810 02/13/2014 #

@PolkaDotty The way I view your dilema is that as long as you make requirements you should have no worries. The requirements for the swap are to send a jar at least 12 oz and since you are sending 16oz jars you are going above and beyond as it is. I think you are doing a great job still. I hope this doesn't sound like I'm saying "its their fault for sending a bigger jar" But everyone chooses their jar. I've gotten some really great stuff in smaller jars then I've sent. Everyone in these swaps are so talented in filling all the space in these jars! I'm suprized sometimes. Especially when there is so much I can't fit it all back in :0 Amazing. I hope this helps a bit. And about your Happy jar...cute idea. Would people need to do a wish list considering what makes me happy may not make others happy for example? Great idea--you could do it public or in the group would be awesome!

I LOVED this swap!!!

It was really hard finding yellow things. But It was FUN!

I have pictures up on my Flickr (links on my profile) of the awesome swap that I received from @PolkaDotty She did an amazing job of really cramming stuff in there!

Also, if @loveellieann88 would like to have a sneak peak of what I'm sending her...that's there too. But I'm not shipping until tomorrow, so don't peek if you want to be surprised!
