Swap categories: Crafts  Jewelry  Art
Number of people in swap:12
Location:Other
Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:January 26, 2007
Date items must be sent by:February 28, 2007
Number of swap partners:2
Description:

This swap will be for beads that we make using whatever materials we choose. They could be made from fabric, wire, fibers, clay, whatever else you can think of. They could be used later to make jewelry, to sew on fabric art or projects, in mixed media projects, with book arts, or who knows what else.

I'm going to say that we should send 15 beads to each partner. There will be 2 partners. Beads should be packaged securely when mailing, probably in bubble wrap.

You must have a rating of at least 4 and no more than 1 recent No Send. If someone has been rated unfairly, let me know, and we'll see what we can do.

I love making beads and hope there are other people out there that do, too.

Does anyone want to talk about what type of beads they'll be making?

lgj302 12/31/2006 #

Jessica - I hope that someone else signs up for this swap! If no one does, then we can just do an individual swap!! AREN'T there any bead makers out there??

funkykchicken 01/ 2/2007 #

Part of the problem i think is that you said no-one can sign up if they have any no sends. That is alright and i agree to some extent but most of the ladies have at least 1 no send.I think if you change it to no more then 1 recent no send you might have better luck.Im going to sign up and hope that 1 more person at least signs up.If not then you would be left out.

Theres also a polymer clay bead swap going on right now.I like to make my beads from paper.

lgj302 01/ 2/2007 #

Thanks alot for the input! I guess I just don't understand why anyone would have no sends and I kind of felt if we were going to go to the trouble to make beads we'd want to be pretty assured of getting some back and I admit I'm particularly sensitive to no sends right now as I just was in a chopstick swap and didn't receive from either partner (and 1 of them started the swap!). I was looking forward to those chopsticks for a book binding technique I do! BUT I didn't mean to sound mean or anything, so changed it to one and will see what happens. I really appreciate your feedback as I'm pretty new to all this. Glad you joined!

funkykchicken 01/ 4/2007 #

Your welcome but i don't think your being mean.I know that some of the ladies that sign up will be getting their ratings changed. If the person doing the chop stick swap didnt send you anything then that is really bad. I dont understand why someone would host a swap and then not follow through.

Im glad i signed up i look forward to making paper beads.Have you ever made those?

lgj302 01/ 5/2007 #

I have made paper ones, but it has been awhile. I like the way that they look. The ones I plan to make are made from wire, fibers, and seed beads. They are very cool, (I think anyway), and are quite colorful.

TerryF 01/ 7/2007 #

I've never made beads before, but I'm willing to give it a try!

lgj302 01/ 8/2007 #

Hi Laura and Funkychickenoriginals: I googled my heart out, Funkychickenoriginals, and got lots of ideas, thanks! Since I have a gazillion books (am a bookworm), I also did a search at home (it took several hours!) and found a book with fabric beads in it. I think I will give them a try as I love fabric and the idea of making beads from it intrigues me - they sound similar to the ones that Laura is making. Apparently you can also make fabric beads the same way as paper beads, by rolling and gluing a triangle on a stick. Since I tend to get bored after making several of anything, I think I will also try some paper beads and some made from Angelina. Will keep my fingers crossed that they turn out well enough to swap! I like that these swaps challenge us to learn new things. Happy beading!

lgj302 01/17/2007 #

Sounds great, Tassy! Glad you've gotten so into the idea.

funkykchicken 01/20/2007 #

I'm having so much fun with this.I've been spending an hour each night making fabric and paper beads on a straw.I will be decorating them next.If every-one could mention what color or combinations of colors they like i would appreciate it.I'm one of those people who does best when knowing exactly what color some one likes.

lgj302 01/21/2007 #

Glad you're having a good time with it, "funkychickenoriginals"! As far as colors, my favorites are blue and purple, but would certainly be open to any colors. I try to get ideas in totally different color schemes now and then for a change and different colors might just do that for me. (Yesterday I did some projects in orange, yellow, and green...not colors I usually use, but loved them)

funkykchicken 01/21/2007 #

Laura i know just what you mean. How neat those are my favorite colors as well.I like all dark colors in my own work. When viewing others art i like brights. So I've taken all my scrap papers like basic grey for instance and all my prettiest fabric and gone to town on getting them made.I will send my partner a nice baggie amount as I'm going to have tons.If i get you as my partner i will be sure to add lots of blues and purples.

TerryF 01/22/2007 #

I also prefer blues, purples, blacks and silver, but am open to any colours really. In fact, brighter beads would probably look great against the darker colours anyway!

snarglebean 01/26/2007 #

Hi! I make my own polymer clay beads and am anxious to get them out in the universe! Yippeeeeeeee!

lgj302 01/26/2007 #

snarglebean 01/27/2007 #

Hi Tassy and sleeping traveler, I am usually one of the last people to send stuff in but TOMORROW I am breaking that habit. Everything's all packed up and ready to go out tomorrow if it's not too bitterly cold and snowy, else they will go out Monday. I hope you like them!

Tassy and sleepingtraveler, have you received my beads yet? I know they're not as strikingly fabulous as Laura's (!!) but they're cool in their own little, polymer way. :)

TerryF 02/ 9/2007 #

I recieved my beads yesterday from Natana, and they are amazing! Her beads are made from Polymer clay and she made little people, and bees, Lady bugs, duck, flowers, etc.. I just love them. I am going to take some pics of them this afternoon and will try to upload them to the gallery or post them on my blog. Thanks again Natana!!!

Craftycakes 03/ 6/2007 #

So quiet... Anyone received beads lately?

TerryF 03/ 9/2007 #

Hey everyone, would love to see pics of your swaps!

snarglebean 03/21/2007 #

One of my partners was That Capt Jim and I never received anything. Even on the group list, this person is marked as "not sent". I haven't even gotten an email explaining the situation. Bummer. I feel sad as I have to leave my first "I never got anything" rating. At least I got some of Laura's fabulous beads, though. :) Kelli

lgj302 03/21/2007 #

Hey, Kelli - Jim was my partner, too, and I haven't heard from him either. I sent him messages 2 or 3 times, but nothing. Am going to try emailing him again tonight. Laura
