Description:

I love eating "ethnic" foods, and I love to cook it as well. I really like to cook authentic, home-made recipes like people would cook on an every day basis, not just for special occasions.

For this swap, you will have 3 partners, and you will send each partner 2 different recipes for ethnic cuisine. That's a total of 6 recipes you will need to send out.

I'm defining the word ethnic for this purpose as some sort of cuisine you would go to a special restaurant for. I.e. Indian, Mexican, Turkish, Middle Eastern, German, etc. The possibilities are endless. Basically, they can be any sort of food, as long as they're not your average "All American" recipe. Ideally, they would be a recipe that you could cook on a daily basis (think for breakfast or a quick lunch) but if you have a favorite recipe for a special dish, that would be great too.

If you have dietary restrictions (i.e. you need recipes that do not include pork or need to be Kosher or Halal, etc.) please include them below. Please check to see if your partner has indicated any restrictions before sending your recipes.

The recipes can be computer printed or hand written, but please make sure they are legible. Also, if the recipe uses an unusual measurement, please note that as well (for instance, in some Turkish recipes, a "cup" actually uses a 6 oz tea cup. this would need to be noted on the recipe for those who are used to an 8 oz cup.)

Feel free to include a letter telling about the recipe, or even about yourself, although it's not required.

Those with more than one no send or a rating below 4 will be dropped from the swap. If you have more than one no send with extenuating circumstances and would like to join please contact me before signing up for possible exceptions.

Newbies, feel free to join in, but make sure your profile is completed.

This is an international swap.

Yum! I've got several in mind!

LINBUR0100 01/ 9/2007 #

Welcome to everyone.

For my swap partners, please no recipes using pork products if possible.

Thanks!

lilylemon 01/12/2007 #

Thank you, Leenda77, for being so nice and welcoming to newbies! Your email today really picked me up! :)

LINBUR0100 01/14/2007 #

Thanks Lily Lemon. I just want to make sure everyone has fun with this. I have seen a few swaps that seem WAAAAAAYYYY too serious and not as much fun as I'd like.

:-)

And welcome to all!

EmilyBemily 01/16/2007 #

Hi! I'm trying to learn how to cook. Easier recipes would be much appreciated. Also, please no recipes with pork products. Thank you! :)

lilylemon 01/17/2007 #

All ingredients (except maybe goat cheese, which I could always find a substitute for!), all ethnicities are fine by me. Bring 'em on! Anyone interested in a monthly swap? Maybe not always ethnic recipes but maybe along a monthly theme (desserts, easy but impressive recipes, summer bbq, etc)?

LMM 01/18/2007 #

I'd like to join in, this will be my very first Swap-bot swap (I guess I'm a Swap-bot virgin :>) I'm up for all ethnicities and cook pork much more often than other meats.

LMM 01/18/2007 #

Is there a specific reason we have to send different recipes to each swap partner? I thought of a great recipe last night I thought everyone might like....

LMM 01/18/2007 #

And....are side dishes or desserts OK, or are we focusing on main dishes?

LINBUR0100 01/18/2007 #

Hi LLM. There is no rule that you have to send different recipes to each of your partners. As long as you do not send recipes using pork products to those of us who have requested as such, then you can send the same recipes to all your partners. Oh, and it can be any type of dish, not just main dishes.

Lily Lemon, I think a montly swap is a great idea. I do knwo that there are probably already a few monthly recipe swaps out there, but the ones I found usually involved something else as well (i.e. knit a pot holder or make a scrapbook layout, etc.) I started this swap for those of us who just want to focus on the recipes, and if you guys think it's a good idea to do it monthly, I'm all for it.

LINBUR0100 01/18/2007 #

One more thing...if you happen to find your recipe from a cookbook or a website, please post that information on the recipe card. This is so if we really love it, we know to look at that resource for other potential recipes from that nationality.

Thanks!

EmilyBemily 01/20/2007 #

I would be very interested in a monthly recipe only swap as well. Fun!

LMM 01/21/2007 #

Should we have our swap partners now? I don't see them yet :>(

lilylemon 01/21/2007 #

Yeah, does anyone know what's going on?

LINBUR0100 01/21/2007 #

Sorry everyone. Swap-bot started a new process (it must have just started yesterday or today) whereby the coordinator has to click a link to initiate the assignment of partners. I did not know this was coming, and therefore did not know I had to click the link. Let me just review all the participants, and if there are no obvious flakers, I'll click assign and we'll be on our way. Thanks for your patience.

lilylemon 01/22/2007 #

I just stuck mine in the mail. I hope they get there soon and that my partners (shh! I'm not saying who) will enjoy the recipes.

LINBUR0100 01/23/2007 #

Hello everyone. Since some people are interested in a monthly swap, I was planning to start one for February. Do you guys have any specific themes in mind? I was thinking of maybe a "looks very impressive, but is actually quite easy" dessert theme or something along those lines. Any suggestions?

lilylemon 01/23/2007 #

Yesa, easy but impressive desserts! Yummy!

LINBUR0100 01/23/2007 #

I created a new swap for this using desserts as the theme. Please sign up if you're interested.

lilylemon 01/28/2007 #

Emily, I got your recipes and your nice note today. Thank you!! I can't wait to try the recipes out. I hope you signed up for the dessert recipe swap!

LINBUR0100 01/29/2007 #

I just finished writing out my recipes yesterday. Am going to pop them in the mail this evening for my partners...I hope you like them!

LINBUR0100 01/29/2007 #

I had an excellent suggestion for a future swap--"our most requested recipes". I am planning to start this for March. Just wanted to let you all know so you could stay on the lookout for it. Hope to see you all there!

LINBUR0100 01/29/2007 #

I meant to say....I RECEIVED a suggestion from another member...not that I had the idea. Thanks EmilyBemily, for the great suggestion.

LINBUR0100 01/30/2007 #

Okey dokey....mine all went out. Hope my partners enjoy them.

lilylemon 01/31/2007 #

My partners should have gotten their recipes by now. Did they get there okay?

LMM 02/ 2/2007 #

I have received from 2 of you.....

Jessie--I can't wait to try the Tandoori Chicken, sounds great and I can serve it with my Indian style green bean recipe that some of you are getting!

LilyLemon--I love lamb, so the paprikash is going to be a keeper, I'm sure. I also love eggplant and make a spicy eggplant stirfry, so the Japanese style recipe will be a nice change of pace!

lilylemon 02/ 6/2007 #

requiscat -- I got your recipes today! Thank you so much! I can't wait to try them!

LMM 02/ 8/2007 #
