Hi....

With all the talk of recycling, and everyone's love for jewelry, I thought I might get a few swaps started that incorporate the two. I thought we might start off with something easy like a brooch. And if there is good interest, we could try something new each consecutive month, i.e., earrings, necklace and bracelet too.

So....

In this swap, we will have 1 partner and we will be creating one brooch made of found objects. The pin back can be (but need not be) a store bought pin backing. Everything else, the base and the adornment will be of recycled or found objects.

To take part in this swap you must belong to the Crafty Recyclers group and you must have a 4.7 rating or better. This swap will be closed to those who have 1 or more "no sends" with in the past 3 months of the start of this swap. Newbies are welcome as long as you have been rated for 3 swaps before the start of the swap. I reserve the right to ban anyone for any good reason so as to insure all participants should have a successful swap experience. This is an international swap.

Please give thought and time to your creations and send that which you would absolutely love to receive. Remember, what you send is a reflection of you.

Above all be creative and have FUN!

Can wwe do fabric base? Like a shirt cuff,or someting?

knitmom7 07/25/2008 #

Hey I made up for the 2 W's by leaving the H out of something. Makes sense to me! If only my fingers could see.

Robin 07/25/2008 #

Yes..........as long as it is a recycled product.....why not.

The brooch I created in the swap photo is computer memory board chip, copper wire from the same pc, flowers from an old dolls hat (which I have been using in other projects, a broken piece off an asian coin token and 3 old plastic rhinestones.

Hi jayme....

This is an international swap but only open to those in the Crafty Recyclers Group, which you are a member. :-)

I like this especially since I'm working on my first shawl and my first cowl (two separate projects) which would both look nice with a brooch. :D

greenplant.....

are you knitting or crocheting them?

greenplant 08/ 8/2008 #

Crocheting, I've just learned how about a month ago and I'm having such a blast!

I used to knit but it was really hard on my hands, wrists, AND arms. But crocheting seems to be strengthening them, so maybe in another couple of months, I can try to knit again. :)

I have never learned how to do either. My grandmother would knit the most beautiful things with intricate patterns and the tiniest of shapes and designs.......they were closer to a lace than knitting. She taught me to tat using a shuttle but I never took an interest in the knitting and crocheting until long after she passed away. My mother never was strictly into sewing and painting. So, I never learned and now have an interest in it. I am so impressed with those who can.

I am sure both your shawl and cowl will be lovely.

It's proving to be far easier than I thought it would be! It feels a lot like sculpture and sometimes even like painting. You should try it some time; I'm teaching myself and it's not too bad. :)

greenplant 08/12/2008 #

Ohhhh I'm really looking forward to this one. :D

Robin 08/12/2008 #

I have thought about it often....but it looks rather complicated.

Which would you say is easier, crochet or knit?

funkyluke 08/19/2008 #

OK I KEPT GOING IN AND OUT MY MIND WENT BLANK.. BUT I GOT IT TOGETHER

Robin 08/20/2008 #

Okay....

So like funkyluke? I don't know what you are talking about? But hey.....it sounds like me yesterday. :-)

Robin 08/20/2008 #

Oh!.....and....

......I voted for you!!

:-)

Robin 08/20/2008 #

.....for your piece.....

I voted for 350 MOTHER EARTH.......

Yeah......Really.....I did!

:-)

I've picked up crocheting a lot faster than I did with knit. I had so many problems with tension with knitting (honestly, with both) that I couldn't seem to relax. The tension with crocheting was much easier to remedy.

But I suppose it would be different for everyone!

Brooches were supposed to be out by yesterday. If you haven't sent yet, contact your partner and try to get it out ASAP.

Have a beautiful day... Robin
