Howdy, Photogs! It's time for another B&W Swap. The theme this time is buildings. Not too long ago I visited a blog in which the photographer, Amy Saab, posted "flawed" roses in black and white. She "removed the color to show their beautiful structure." I've done the same thing--with flowers, buildings, people. Even without "flaws," there's something about black and white photography that reveals the beauty of a thing in ways that we miss because of all the color. Don't get me wrong. I love the brilliance of color photography, but there's something about monochrome photography that can be breathtaking. For this swap, you will play around with B&W photography again. This time you will take a building shots--parts of a building, whole buidling(s), etc. Take a few shots. Alter a few shots. Then, pick what you consider your best two and send them to your partner. If you're converting to black and white (rather than shooting in black and white), it might be fun to send your partner before and after pics (not required). While you're at it, you might be in the mood to play around and alter the photo in other ways (move or twist some things)-- sometimes the results can be stunning! Tell your partner a little about the photos, about your experience with the shots. For inspiration, check out Leanne Cole's Monochrome Madness Series. Here's Week 39. Sender's choice for presentation. *Please Note: Feel free to experiment with other forms of monochrome photography (sepia, pink, blue, yellow, etc.). As long as the photo is some form of monochrome, it is fair game. In fact, we'll change the name for the next swap in the series! :-) |
