Description:

have you ever seen those cool stained glass coloring books in the bookstores? The illustrations are gorgeous!!! In this swap you would color one page from one of these books, then cut them randomly into ATCs. It's similar to the coloring book swap that was held not long ago. You will make 3 ATCs for 1 partner. if you don't have or can't find one of these coloring books, contact me. I just did a search on Amazon .com, and found many books available. Just search for stained glass coloring books. If you really want to partipate in this swap, and CANNOT get one of the coloring books, I would be willing to send out 3 already ATC cuts uncolored for you to do; but I can't do this for everyone, since they are readily available thru amazon.com, and they can be found in major book stores. i was able to find one of my books (without a cover!), The Wizard of Oz theme, and I colored one of the picture to sho you what they look like. It is hard to describe what kind of paper they are made of, it's like a thick vellum that is translucent. The pictures are very detailled and are made with dark black lines, so when you finish coloring the picture (with crayons, colored pencil or markers)it will look like stained glass. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Thanks, susi PS: Please sign up only if you are serious about completeing the swap in the allotted time. Let's have fun with this! PSS: I just discovered something after I cut my picture into ATCs. It will be difficult to put your ATC info on the back, so this it what you can do: cut piece of light colored cardstock and write your info on it and paper clip that to the ATCs. That way you can slide the ATCs into the sleeves, with the info showing, but not ruining your card.

Hi Susi, do you have a link to a homepage where I can see those books?

Greetings

jbtmykids 01/18/2007 #

Me too. I've never seen them! Cheers!

Susi 01/19/2007 #

i didn't realize that i put the date so soon...i wonder if i can change it? i would like more than 3 people on the swap. i don't have aebsite, but i wiil send a scanned pictue of one up asap. susi

Susi 01/19/2007 #

there, i fixed it so there's more time for people to join an d for me to get an image up. susi

Susi 01/19/2007 #

Ok, I've made quite a few minor changes and corrected a LOT of errors on the swap description, and have also added a pictue of one that I made tonight. The uniqueness of these books is the reason I thought it would be a great swap. Like I said in the description, I would be willing to send 3 precut ATCs for those people who absolutely cannot find the stained glass coloring books. All I ask for is that who needs this to be done,, that they send me an SASE. International players could send a bit of ephemera to cover tghe cost of postage, just send a self addressed envelope. I hope that my more detailed explanation and longer sign up date will get more players! Susi

I thought I would chime in with more info. The publisher is "Dover Publications". These are sold either as miniature books with 8 pages each for $1.25 or $1.50. They also have the regular big books with 16 illustrations in them which retail for $6 each. They are sold not just at Amazon but also in the kids aisle of the major big chain bookstores. Also, AC Moore craft store chain in USA has them in the children's crafts aisle with the kids coloring books. Lastly, check in small independent toy stores such as the 'educational toy' stores. I have not ever looked in the big name toy chain stores.

If you want to see what they look like go to the Dover Publications website (they sell their books direct to customers on the web and in paper catalogs, too).

By the way the children's books Dover catalog is a great source for tiny images to cut out and collage with. That catalog has b&w and color images of historical images, famous people, holiday designs, and more. So if you want that while on their website sign up for their mail order catalogs on their website.

This is a great idea for an ATC swap.

Did you know Swap-bot now has a special category for ATCs? You might get more players if you edit it to add in that category. I am signing up now since I already own some of these coloring books I might as well use them!

Susi 01/21/2007 #

Thanks Christine for all your great information! I thought that the publisher was Dover, but was not sure so I did not mention that. You sure did give some great info also ideas where to get images etc! How do I find out about the just ATC swaps? I have got 3 ATS swaps going right now, and so far this is the only one that seems to be attracting people attention. I'd like to put them in that category, to see I can get more participants. Thanks again, susi

To view any category of swap by that category go to "view all swaps" then use the drop-down menu to pick what category, for example, to pick 'ATCs'. Then all marked with that category come up.

I colored in my page last night while watching TV and my kids joined in and they wanted to color in the book also. So all three of us had fun with it.

So glad you are hosting this theme of an ATC swap!

ChristineMM 01/21/2007 #

One last thing, I used markers on mine but in the past we have used colored pencils, which give a different effect. (We own Berol Prismacolors.) THe colored pencils allow you to make more of a shadow effect. Okay I have said enough! Have a good night.

would it be all right if we were to do a Google for "Stained Glass Coloring Pages" and use a page we printed out from there?

user3674 01/24/2007 #

Yippee! I got my books from amazon so I could start coloring......

mouseybrat 01/26/2007 #

Selise.... if you print it out from the web page you would need to print it out on velum... the point of the swap is so the piece is translucent and looks like stained glass. if you print it out on regular paper it will not be translucent...hope that helps Samantha

Susi 01/27/2007 #

selise, I agree with mouseybrat, this needs to be on translucent paper, plain white paper just won't cut it. If getting a book is the problem, I can send a page or two, and i saw that there is one other person who would be willing to do the same!

Susi 01/27/2007 #

lizard plum, i am going to email you and convince you to join... this swap cannot be any easier. All you need to do is color a stained class picture, and then cut it up into ATC size cards, nothing else needed, no embellishments or anything else! so, jump right on in! susi

thiswillbegone 01/28/2007 #

I was going to do it on transparency paper. I get a lot from my school, I just meant print a picture from the internet, trace over it with the transparency paper and colour with my Sharpies.

Susi 01/29/2007 #

selise that sounds fine to me, go for it, it'll be like real stained glass! susi

Susi 01/29/2007 #

hmm, i wonder how i could get a hold of lizardplum and selise to convince them to join! anyone know how? susi

thiswillbegone 01/29/2007 #

Ok.. I joined! I'm tracing my images now :)

ScrapTheSurface 01/29/2007 #

The images available are quite large in size. I love a challenge the I have signed up to create this work of art. I have seen them but they are too big for an atc. How am I supposed to cut it up for an atc, it is too small. Is there a website that has smaller images for atc's. Great idea though. Oh and exactly what pencils do I use to colour them in. My daughter would like to know can you use shrinky dink paper.
