I'm not usually one to be up on the latest trend, but these pocket letters are just so fun! Thanks @bb2 for getting us started on these. It took me awhile to get the hang of it, but after watching lots of YouTube videos and searching on Google, I jumped in and have now done around 6 of them, all different themes. For this swap, "Flights" will be along the lines of God's flying creatures (birds, butterflies, etc.) and "Fancy" will be colorful things like flowers, etc. One pocket should have a letter to your partner. The other 8 pockets can be a mix of ATCs or other mini works of art, along with a few "goodies" having to do with the theme. Your goodies can be the focus of the pocket or they can be added in the back. There are so many idea for the pockets (stickers, decorative tapes, stamped images/sayings, die cuts, punch outs, colorful papers, clips, etc.) Below is Janette Lane's video (she started this craze), and as I mentioned, watch YouTube videos and look at Google images to find lots of inspiration. Janette Lane pocket letter tutorial Here's another person I found who has a good tutorial. Sherbert Ink pocket letter tutorial Once you are done filling up the pockets, fold your pocket letter in thirds and put it into a business size envelope. If you go over the 1/4" thick, you will most likely have to pay $2.32 to send it. That's what happened with the first 2 that I mailed. However, it is possible, to get the postage down if you keep your pockets fairly flat. I did manage to send one for 91 cents. In any case, please be sure you put enough postage on it (get it weighed at the post office if you can), as no one wants to receive mail postage due. See comments below for more postage information. This is not profile specific so you can start right now. P.S. I hope I haven't rambled on too much - I just wanted to make sure I explained it thoroughly. But feel free ask any questions you want to below. We'll all learn together. |
