Have you noticed that aprons are making a comeback? Not the butcher/chef/BBQ style that you can find anywhere, but the more vintage-style hostess/housewife aprons. I LOVE these, and they are SO easy to sew! I'm brand new to sewing but even I can do it. So, let's make one "half" apron for our swap partner. Make sure you get your assigned partner's waist measurements and add plenty of inches to make certain the strings will tie! We're not doing full aprons with a "bib" because some people are short-waisted or long-waisted or ample-chested which all change the measurements of the bib. So let's just make a simple, spring-ish half apron. Please include at least one pocket on it. No pattern? Here's a few freebies on the web: how to recycle an old skirt (or cheap thrift store buy): http://www.shasta.com/suesgoodco/newcivilians/womenswear/aprons.htm retro kitchen apron instructions (ignore the bib part of the instructions): http://www.craftygal.com/archives/402/table402.htm http://organizedhome.com/content-7.html This one is specifically designed for cleaning, so has lots of pockets. But even if you don't make all the pockets, it has some great directions you can adapt to make a basic half apron: http://organizedhome.com/content-7.html Go here: Finally, this one is for children, so it would need to be made larger for an adult, but the directions are very clear and wonderful: http://www.patternbee.com/FREE5.html By the way, if you are willing to make a full apron based on your assigned partner's measurements, AND your assigned partner wants a full one, it's okay to do so. Be sure to talk between yourselves about it. However, no one is required a make a full bib apron if they don't want to. Also, it's always nice to add a few tuck-ins to your package. For this swap, a wooden spoon or other kitchen utensil, potholder, a few recipes or tea bags, any of these would be a lovely little tuck-in surprise for your assigned person. This isn't required. All that is required is a simple half apron with one pocket. You can contact your assigned person and get favorite colors and try to make one to match, but again, this isn't required. Do try to use fabric that's as vintage-y as possible. There are great reproduction vintage fabrics available. But, you can also use what you have in your fabric stash. Since an apron is very inexpensive to mail, this swap WILL be OPEN TO ALL, EVEN INTERNATIONAL, AS LONG AS you have a rating of 4.7 or higher. Newbies need to have a rating before signing up, and that rating needs to be 4.7 or greater. So, let's have fun and swing into spring with an apron!!! Any questions? Just contact me! |
