This swap is not meant to be morbid, but rather should be looked at as a celebration of Frida Kahlo's amazing talent, style, and artistic influence. With that in mind, here is what the swap is about: You will have one partner for whom you will decorate a paper mache' or wooden Frida Kahlo coffin. This time of year, Michael's and other craft stores sell small coffins in several sizes. The smallest size acceptable for this swap is 5 inches in length. I think the 7 inch size is most prevalent in stores. The coffin needs to contain a representation of Frida. This can be a skeleton or a small doll or even a paper doll made from heavy paper. The Frida "doll" does not have to be removable, although it can be if you wish. You can even use a head only, but if you do, add a cloth coverlet so it looks like a complete body is in the coffin. You can go with a Day of the Dead style or anything else that inspires you to do your best work and honor our beloved muse. (The image used is courtesy of MyPinkHeaven on Etsy.) |
