Due to a family emergency the original hostess ShyAnn64 asked me to take over. It is the same swap just a different gal running it. I have always been interested in time travel, history, creative writing (even though I am an amateur) reading old diaries and I love, love snail mail! I have pondered this idea for a while and think it may be fun for those of you who have a similar interest. The idea is for each of us to buy a journal or notebook (doesn’t need to cost much, but thick enough for an abundance worth of entries from others) each of us will choose a time from history that we have always been fascinated with… Medieval, Renaissance, the Viking era, Old West, ancient Greece, etc. (time periods are endless!) In our journal/notebook we will start our story on what we are doing just before we find ourselves back in time (browsing an antique store, holding a mirror, waking up from an accident, etc.) We will begin to write about where we wake up, who we are, our thoughts, what is going on around us, events we may attend, news that may have an impact on our day, interactions with others and how we begin to acclimate in in our daily life. We will all be fictional, however the timeline that we choose should have a bit of historical truth to make it feel more realistic. We can choose 'who we want to be' when we wake up in our chosen time period and go from there... We will spend two weeks writing in our fictional journal/notebook—a few minutes a day or as time permits before sending it to our next partner. Once received by our partner we will continue on with their adventure but adding color of our own to the story. Approximately two weeks later, we will start another round and yours will be passed on to another partner to continue the story that each of us started. We all must continue the original writers theme, so it may take a few moments of google search if a time-frame is unknown (for example I know very little about the ancient Egypt, so I would need to get a feel for the time, history and culture before I write my entries.) We can either make our entries diary/journal style (which I prefer) or we can continue the free flow creative writing (the member that starts the journal can decide what he/she would prefer.) Depending on the size of the journal/notebook, please write at least 2-4 pages in each round (you can add more if you wish as well as add recipes, old wives tales, myths, superstitions, etc., of the time theme you are writing about.) Each round we will forward to the next partner we are assigned and our stories continue to grow with the imagination of others. At this point you can decide if you want to continue the next round, take a break, start a new story or simply end your part in the commitment and ask that your original story to be returned to you. If at any time you become the partner of your own original, it is alright since you will continue to add entries to your story and will then again send it out in the next round. Turnaround should be about three weeks, two weeks to write entries, then one week to allow for travel time to your next partner. This also allows new participants to join in :) This is USA-only to keep postage at a ‘media mail’ rate. Please sign up ONLY if you are able to commit! Turnaround should be about three weeks, two weeks to write entries, then one week to allow for travel time to your next partner. You must be an active member of Swap-Bot for at least 3 months with a very well filled out profile with a 4.97 or higher rating. I will be checking each profile before assigning partners. Exceptions will be made for explained older lower ratings. Ask me any questions you have in the comments or PM me. If you have any ideas of how to improve it as we go, let me know. Missy |
