Description:

Somerset Life showed a really sweet matchbox pendant with a little girl stamped on the outside and when you slide the box open her legs (2 match sticks) appeared on a text background.

I was enchanted and thought this would be fun to do with our own twist. The matchbox will be altered, paper, paint, embellished, however you wish and when you slide the box open there is something related to the outside glued in place. There are so many possibilities! Please use a ribbon or chain or other means to hang your pendant for wearing.

I have enjoyed wearing may swapbot creations and the always get favorable comments, so here is an opportunity to make living wearable art. I am giving lots of lead timefor this swap. This is artists choice.

I will check profiles and I know we are responsible swappers, but I maintain the right to discuss any potential problems I may have with your ratings, etc.

I love this idea but a matchbox is bigger than something I'd wear. Hope you get some participants.

No size requirement on the box size. I have some commercial ones that are very small.

How would you make the box hang open like that when the necklace is worn, do you have any directions or site of article, I can't wrap my head around how to dangle legs.

sewingmistress 04/10/2016 #

What part of the box would we attach the ribbon to? Inside the box?

homeandheart 04/11/2016 #

@sewingmistress If you push the matchbox UP to open, with the girls image on the front you can hang matchsticks or paper legs from tiny eye hooks or something so they dangle. However it just an idea. If you check out matchbox pendants or shrines on Google or pinterest it will give you better visuals. You can attach ribbon to the outside sides of the box, or punch 2 holes in the box and thread it. Hope that helps some.

Sorry that I was off in sunny Mexico for a week and could not respond to questions! Thanks to Jody for stepping up!!

Welcome back, you luck gal! 😄 If I read this correctly it doesn't have to be a doll. It can be a bird house that you open to see a bird or nest, a tree and squirrel, a throne and king, a tiny fridge that opens to reveal food etc. It's a swap based on the outside opening up to something that coordinates with the inside.

Yes, that is an accurate observation, Jody. The matchbox can be decorated with anything tiny that you wish & that coordinates inside to outside. I love the examples you cited and saw wonderful tiny things at the stores to display inside the box. So many interesting objects can be displayed and then closed up in the "drawer".
