Pick Strawberries Day always celebrated on May 20 ---is a perfect time to get some fresh air and fresh strawberries. Depending on where you live in the United States, peak strawberry picking can be anytime between late April and mid-late May. Make sure you pick firm, plump and really red ones. They bruise easily so be gentle putting them in your crate and don't stack too many layers on top. Also, you'll want to avoid washing them until you're ready to eat them. They can stay on your counter for a day, but if it may be a day or two until you eat them, it's best to line a shallow plate with paper towels and place them in your fridge. They will stay fresh for a few days, any longer and you'll want to freeze them. Interestingly, strawberries are members of the rose family and are the only fruit whose seeds are on the outside. They are an excellent source of vitamin C and good source of fiber, folic acid, and potassium. They can also help fight bad cholesterol and may help to reduce inflammation. Lets Have Fun ! ! ! |
