Description:

This is my first time hosting a swap and I have been trying to think of something different but useful..so i came up with SPICES..everyone cooks with them, so they will all come in handy..it doesn't have to be just a spice, it should be something that is "unique" to your area...example, i live in the Scallop Capital of the world, so we sell packages of spices to make chowders, lobster, clam, mussels spices etc...they sell for like $3 a pack..so i am thinking that we should have 4 swap partners each..Get Creative People! Cause we all love to Eat! Food is the SPICE of life!

I am new to swap-bot, but I can't wait to start swapping. I used to belong to many sticker swapping groups. Well I love to cook, and have quite an impressive spice collection so this should be plenty of fun!

myrrhmaid 03/21/2007 #

This is right up my alley. I have some great herb/spice blends to share. I'm looking forward to swapping!

user7007 04/ 8/2007 #

Hello all, I sent the signature Baltimore spice to four lucky ladies. The swap went out on 4/4/07, so you should have them in not much time. Enjoy!

user7007 04/ 9/2007 #

I received a lovely package today from pink ribbon survivor! I can definitely use these, and thanks for the extra!! I can't wait to try the scallop seasoning!! K-ROCK!

user4914 04/ 9/2007 #

I have sent some spices from down under to Kym, Rebecca, Vicki and Chrissy today - expect them to take about a week to arrive! Hope you enjoy!! =)

I got TWO spice packages yesterday! Pink Ribbon Survivor & WillowTree- Thank You very much! I enjoyed my packages a great deal. What a treat! :) vicki

charolette33 04/10/2007 #

I sent mine out today to brittercat, AeroChik, myrrhmaid , and K-ROCK. :)

K-Rock: use the Signature Baltimore spice today with Minnesota fish from the freezer that everyone was bored to death with...used the Crab Cakes recipe from the side of the spice container, but substituted slighted shredded MN fish to make a nice, spicy fish cake. For the adults, we had fish cakes with a side of spaghetti with pesto. For the kids, they made fishburgers with whole wheat buns, lettuce, mayo and tomato. It was a hit! Thanks again!

prairieknitter01 04/13/2007 #

I never proofread properly. Substitute USED for use in my post. Sigh.

user7007 04/15/2007 #

Prairieknitter01, I am so glad you enjoyed it! We put that on EVERYTHING around here. Try it on fresh french fries - yummm. I even put it in the water when I boil potatoes, pasta, corn, and steam shrimp!

user7007 04/15/2007 #

myrrhmaid 04/16/2007 #

oh man! You gals sure are generous! I've have received the nicest packages of herbs and spices and recipes and cards! Thanks so much! I'm excited to try the old bay. It's such an interesting mix of herbs & spices! We want to try it on popcorn! I've seen it in the stores for years but never bought it! I eyeballed it but somehow never got the nerve up to try it. I need some practice cooking seafood and this is just the incentive I need. We had almost picked up a package of the chili spice that was gifted me the day before! That was really funny when we opened the package & seen what was in it! Along with the pork rub and fresh garlic! I love the smell of that! The whole family went nuts sniffing it and going off on how yummy it smells! We made some biscuits and gravy that we added it to and boy was it yumyumyum! I'm looking forward to using the chicken fricot and savory spices. I noticed on the package it said 'acadian au'. I recently seen a show where the talked about Acadians being the 1st large immigration to the US and that 'cajun' is derived from the 'Acadians'. Thanks everyone for the sweet & savory surprises and generous amount of thoughtfullness, care & love that obviously went into these packages! oxoxoxooxxoxooxooxoxooxoxoxoxoxoxxxoxooxooxoxoxox

Thank you, Natalie, for the Italian seasonings! That will spice up lots of great sauce! I don't use "jars" either -- I canned 45 pints of tomatoes last year.

Thank you for the menudo, brittercat! I'm glad your recipe calls for hamburger instead of tripe! Whew!

For everyone who hasn't heard from me yet--Melly in Australia and Kym in Canada, maybe even Chrissy in Michigan--pls keep the faith, I sent everyone on my list the same box from Penzey's that willow tree took pictures of.

Andrea

prairieknitter01 04/17/2007 #

brittercat--have you ever tried it making menudo with tripe? Just curious. I am being told that it's great, and I should try it! Thanks again.

PinkRibbonSurvivor2002 04/18/2007 #

WillowTree21 04/18/2007 #

We seriously need "smell-a-monitors"! :D

PinkRibbonSurvivor2002 04/19/2007 #

well..sowwy swappers..it looks like Moon Asanti is a flaker! she has never written in here or sent spices out..dang, that makes me mad, cause i did check all ratings before assigning..hers was 4.75! although now its dropping because of no-sends...so i think we should all go and rate her a 1 to drop her ratings lower so she cant scam anyone else..i see she is in about 25 more swaps..grrr...but on a good note...we didnt miss her that bad since we had multiple swappers...and i hope you all enjoyed this swap! Thanks!

WillowTree21 04/19/2007 #

I rated but I have second thought about it. I am a sickly person with kids. Everyday life doesnt give me promises that its going to be a good day. This person has a life too and like wigglywourms its possible something could be wrong. I have to wait my 14 days, please. I would like to know I had the same courtsey if I were to land in the hospital or get hit by a car. Theres enough info there to let other host know something is amist. I hope you understand I am changing my post from this: Willow Tree on Apr 19, 2007 in Spice it Up! gave a rating of: 1 Comment: 4/19/07 I was going to wait the 14 days from the send by date to rate this swap, however, I was informed by the host to set my rating now because it is thought that Moon Asanti aka Chrissy Trutsh is a "flaker". If this partner does send to me I will change this rating at once! Flaker or something wrong in their life, I wish no one harm! Good Luck in life! We all need it! Willow Tree .... to nothing as of right now.

Please understand, I am giving her a chance.

Rebecca

Willow Tree, I tried the Mexican seasoning - I am in love! Muchas gracias again!! -On the Moon Asanti thing: I did leave her a "1" rating, and said, "I hope I receive a swap from this person." I think this is OK because not one of us has received a swap from her. I will certainly change my rating as soon as I receive something from her. I think that if she is signed up for 25 swaps it is fair to the people who are her partners to know that others have not received. Additionally if her rating drops before partners are assigned for her 25 other swaps, perhaps she will be removed from the swap, and many people will not have to be disappointed. I certainly hope that nothing unfortunate has happened to Moon Asanti, but if she is unable to send swaps, I don't think it's fair that people are sending them to her. When she decides to log back into swap-bot I am sure she will clear this up. hearts, Kendra

I am in tears right now! I sent her priority mail and I got a response!

Her cousin was shot in the Va tech college shooting. She isnt a flaker, she just needs time! She is hurt enough from the death of her cousin and now hurt more from the "hate" ratings she has seen! Just because she hasnt sent yet doesn't mean she isnt going to. Her ratings were good until this death happened! I hope, as she says, "I hope someone takes more respect instead of out of angry!"

WillowTree21 04/19/2007 #

I did do a little research and don't want to look like the stupid person but I also have to say the swap was to be sent on the 11th and the shooting happened on the 16th. I will still give her the benifit of the doubt!

PinkRibbonSurvivor2002 04/20/2007 #

exactly..the dates dont match!

WillowTree21 04/20/2007 #

Maybe I don't want a bad thing messing up a good swap! I was smiling and really liking this swap until all this started! I will not allow it to take over and spoil my wonderful spices I got from the people I did receive from. What will be, will be. Time and faith will tell. Let's not allow other peoples ill furtune, social life, family life or even a flaker to ruin it for everyone. The more we feed into the negative things the more we lose sight of the things that make us smile!

Back to Happy Swapping!

user7007 04/20/2007 #

Well ladies, I also received an email from Moon Asanti, and I actually received a swap from her today from a different theme which was assigned AFTER the spice swap. It is a horrible tragedy what happened at Virginia Tech, I am very upset about it and I did not even know any victims personally. My heart goes out to Chrissy, and her family. Because of the discrepancies of the dates, and the fact that I received a swap that came after our spice swap I am guessing that Chrissy was going to be late sending the spices swap anyway. When she says, "I hope someone takes more respect instead of out of angry!" I want her to know that I am not angry at her, and am glad that she finally contacted the group. I am sending out positive thoughts for her family, I can not imagine what they are going through right now.

WillowTree21 04/25/2007 #

Day 14 rating. :(

user7007 05/ 1/2007 #

I guess it is safe to say that Moon Asanti never sent the packages. I am grateful that I had many good swaps in this round, although I am really tired of never receiving anything in some swaps. I am a newer swapper, and have sent EVRYTHING that I have said I would, and it is really frustrating especially when you spend a decent amount of $ on the swap & shipping. I have probably received 55% of swaps - MAYBE. I am wondering if the people who haven't sent to me have been burned by others and want to "get even" or something. I just wanted to vent. Kendra

user7007 05/15/2007 #

WOW! I am shocked! (In a good way) Today I came home to find a package that said Spice It Up. I couldn't imagine who could have sent this, to find that it was my own swap partner Andrea aka prairieknitter01. You are such an incredibly nice person, and a fine swapper! I received a wonderful box of Penzey's spices - I can't stop smelling them. I am really speachless - this is such an unprecedented occurrence, and unbelievably kind and thoughtful. I wish I could leave a few hearts for you!! Very gratefully, Kendra
