Now that we have done the reverse art technique, it's time for the next technique

            Tape Transfer Technique

This Technique is very simple and can be very pretty.. ..... to use instead of transparent stickers

1 First find the image..Collage sheets, or glossy magazine images..You can only do this with images that have been printed on a laser printer.

2 You must use clear packing tape for this to work..Cut your tape a little larger than your image.. Place the clear tape over the image you want to use, rub it down real good, make sure to get all the air bubbles out..

3 Place it hot water for a few minutes, take it out and gently rub of the paper form the tape.. The more transparent you want it to be, the more paper you rub off,,Being careful not to rub away the entire image... ( if you need to trim it any, now is the time)

4 add glue to the back and place it where you to use it..

make 2 of these for 1 partner

I've really been wanting to try this technique, so I consider this the perfect opportunity. Count me in!

does it matter what side you run under hot water? tape side or paper side? I've never heard of this! Sounds interesting! Thanks for your help in advance. ~A~

It's best to have a small bowl of water ready, Drop the whole thing into the hot water ( I have used cold water but warm or hot works much faster) and then just rub off the paper side...

For what it's worth, I experimented a bit last month and discovered that I could transfer a design that i had colored in with colored pencils. I was using designs printed on a b&w laser printer. I also tried with sharpies (they're permanent, and water proof, right?) - but that didn't work at all. The color rubbed right off the tape, and some even started dissolving into the water.

I have always just used images that I cut from a magazine..I have tried several way to be able to draw my own design and never came up with one, never though of colored pencils,..Thanks for sharing that with us...I am off to work on this a whole different way now..

I just thought that I should mention I have done this using old books. The ones I used were tattered and ripped up and dated from 1945. Reader's Digest. They turned out lovely and are perfect for vintage looks. I can't wait to do more!

More great Ideals .. I love anything with the vintage look..I got to go try this now... I am going to use these ideals on other swaps too...I love it...Thanks to all post their way of doing this swap...What a great way for me (us) to learn something new...Thanks again

OMG this is SOOOO awesome! I just tried this with a magazine and had no idea it was so easy and rewarding! I have tried it with clear acrylic medium before but the paper does not come off anywhere near as well as with the tape! WOWOW!! I am hooked, thanks guys!! Definitely joining this swap now that I am enlightened!

Since I learned this technique, I've been using it in A LOT of ATCs. It gives you so much freedom to layer and place things the way you want. I love how the background paper shows through my black and white printed images!

Starwatcher 01/26/2009 #

Cool! I've just made my "stickers" - so do they get sent as is, or am I supposed to make an ATC with them for my partner?

raven 02/17/2009 #

Must be made into an atc...All swaps for our group Monthly ATC Swapper group will be atc's..Unless they say different, so far we have not done anything different yet....
