The Yule/Xmas season gets a lot of hype in my house (it's not my favorite holiday but I am significantly outnumbered and their joy is infectious.) Trouble is, we haven't come across an advent calendar that truly speaks to us. Oh sure, we don't turn our noses up at tiny chocolate reindeer or a new Lego man but we haven't been guided to a countdown that truly celebrates the time we're spending in this part of the wheel of the year. And so I have come up with an idea to create a swap for the witches/pagans/magickal humans to share their own version of a 20 day Yule Advent calendar (to begin December 1 and end December 20). To start, read your partner's profile so you can take note of allergies, sensitivities, preferences, and dislikes so you can send something truly in line with the spirit of giving. Items you may want to include are packs of incense, a box of tea, a tree ornament, complete tarot deck or altered tarot card (now is not the time for a few randomly selected cards), and individual crystals. Items may be gently used, but nothing that shows wear (used candles or open incense) or smells of smoke. Items may also be nicely handmade. How you present your calendar is up to you. You can wrap them individually (no need to put the swap name on each one, just include it in a note) number them in the order to be opened or leave it up to your partner, put them all in a stocking to be pulled out blindly each day, it is up to you, the sender, so have fun with it. Note: items should have a "magickal" value, but if you read that your partner is a wine drinker, you can send a cork screw; after all you need to open those offering bottles, right?! A couple gifts related to other topics on your partner's profile are ok. Just try to err on the side of the metaphysical rather than the obvious. This should be fun, sincere, and a celebration of this special time. Awful, necessary money talk: if items are not homemade, the minimum value per item should be $1. I realize this does require some budgeting on the parts of some users so please strongly consider if you will be able to commit to this swap before signing up. Please put your gifts together and send as quickly as possible to ensure your package will reach its destination before December 1st. Keep the Thanksgiving weekend in mind for postal delays. Region: This swap is US only to keep costs consistent. If any international friends would like to host one for their own country (or all) please feel free to copy this swap and share it! I wish you all a blessed Yule and much joy with the ones you love. |
