Description: | |
In our era chocolate houses were a common sight in the larger cities & towns, generally small establishments, where ladies and gents stood or sat at small round tables conversing of all the news of London. In comparison the taste of it was not sweet, was not as we are so used to in our 21st Century lives, it was a bitter thick liquid and grainy. So to feel a little like we are ala mode in the fashionable ways of Georgian chocolate consumption, & to uplift in the forthcoming season of jollity and giving, we shall be indulging in Quilters Chocolate. For this swap we will be having 2 partners to whom we send 10 squares to each, Each piece measuring 5" square in different fabrics, our choice. There are no restrictions on types of cloth, it might be 10 patterned cottons perhaps in our Georgian theme or they might be velvet/wool/or linen in a strong plain colour or chintz heavier cottons, or a Christmas theme or 1960s paisley or 1970s subtle floral are fine. The only exception that does not fit us really is fluro colours and childrens themed/cartoon imagery and other obviously modern garish fabric colour/designs, so these are to be avoided. The envelope ought to be quite light as 10 squares do not weigh very much. it is quite permissible to include some homespun (a plain single colour light cotton, but sold in a variety of colours), Your partner might then embroider upon them or draw a design with ink. This is an opportunity to move on some of those pieces that have sat in the cupboard, too good to toss out, but not useful for any of your projects. The object is for your partner to have a selection of old style squares that she might make up into something useful, perhaps a cushion, an apron, table mat or some pot holders or to add to her coverlet that we are currently making. I hope you might like to join in and share your stash with your fellow Georgettes. |
