Description: | |
This slow-stitching challenge is a hybrid of the Kandinsky circles and meditative twinchies we've enjoyed in the past. The main difference is this project emphasizes radial symmetry, rather than meandering stitches, creating a delicate snowflake-like pattern. Please use this ZEN STITCHING MANDALA TUTORIAL as a basic guide for your project. The author uses straight stitches, lazy daisies and French knots. You can stick with these or, as long as the piece remains symmetrical, employ other stitches. You are also free to choose different felt and thread colors. The tutorial uses a three-inch embroidery hoop. If it's easier for you to work with a larger hoop, you can. After removing your piece from your embroidery hoop, send it as-is (not trimmed or finished on the back). Your partner can then choose to mount it to a hoop or trim and back it for use as a patch. Achieving perfect symmetry isn't the point of this project. In fact, the imperfections in these handstitched mandalas are what make them charming and beautiful. Aim for perfection but embrace your humanity! This swap is sender's choice. You can begin working on your mandala before partners are assigned. Image and tutorial from the Shiny Happy World blog.
