Description:

Would you like to spend some time strolling through a museum? Me, too! Unfortunately, they're all closed. But that won't stop us. Through the magic of virtual tours we can still enjoy visiting many of the world's best museums. Let's take a journey together. I'll be your guide :-)

We will be touring the Dalí Theatre and Museum dedicated to the artist Salvador Dalí. The museum is located in the artist's home town of Figueres in Catalonia, Spain in a theater that Dali knew as a child. It is the place where one of his first public exhibitions was shown.

To enter the museum, click here. You will notice a few symbols that will help you navigate the space:

  • The yellow and white circles give you the names of the rooms and some details about them. If you hover over a circle, you can read the information. If you click on one of these circles, you will be transported to the entrance of that space.

  • The blue and white circles tell you about the items on display. Again, hovering lets you read the information. Clicking on the piece will allow you to zoom in for a closer look.

  • The red and white circles are mini conversations between the curators of the museum and you, the visitor. They give you ideas for engaging in projects at home or ask questions for you to ponder.

  • As you move your mouse around the rooms you'll see a white ring. Match this ring to the rings on the floor to travel through the museum. Some rooms and hallways are closed. You will not see rings on the floor in these spaces. If you try to click into a closed area, you will pop into the nearest room or corridor available.

Together we will explore nine spaces in the museum. The swap will involve answering one question for 6 of these spaces (you choose which six you prefer) plus the last three questions which are about your personal experience. This means you will send your partner the answers for a total of nine questions. Of course, you can choose to answer them all if you are so inclined. :-)

Are you ready? Let's go!

ROOM 1 - THE VESTIBULE:

  • Which item in this room, featuring two photographs of Dali's wife Gala, was designed by French model and actress Amanda Lear?

ROOM 2 - THE COURTYARD:

  • What is holding up the boat which Dali and Gala used to go sailing?

ROOM 3 - THE CUPOLA:

  • What is under the white slab in the middle of the stage?

ROOM 4 - THE TREASURE ROOM:

  • What is in the glass case at the far end of the room?

ROOM 5 - THE FISHMONGERS' ROOM:

  • How old was the artist when he painted the portrait of his father which is hanging in this room?

ROOM 10/16/17 - THE CORRIDOR:

  • Down the corridor to the left you'll find a plaster statue of the Venus de Milo. What unusual feature did Dali add to the sculpture to "look inside the body?"

ROOM 11 - THE MAE WEST ROOM:

  • Where is the Eiffel Tower located in this room?

ROOM 15 - PALACE OF THE WIND:

  • Who is featured in the portrait described as "one of the most representative works from the artist's nuclear-mysticism period?"

ROOM 19 - LOGGIA:

  • How are liquor bottles used in this room?

PERSONAL QUESTION ONE:

  • Which piece not mentioned in the questions above did you find most intriguing and why?

PERSONAL QUESTION TWO:

  • What did you learn about Salvador Dali that you didn't know prior to visiting the museum?

PERSONAL QUESTION THREE:

"I want my museum to be a single block, a labyrinth, a great surrealist object. It will be [a] totally theatrical museum. The people who come to see it will leave with the sensation of having had a theatrical dream." Salvador Dalí

  • How does the artist's statement relate to your experience of touring the museum?

Don't forget to send your SB ID and swap information with your answers.

Have fun :-)
