Traveling from Yorkshire back to London one late afternoon, your party stops for some rest and shade. Near an old oak tree, you spy a leather bound book, curious you open it and begin to read... This is a simple swap for a journal to send to 1 partner. This should be fun! Select your favorite character from the Arthurian tales, or from medieval history like Eleanor of Aquitaine or Henry II. It can be anyone that there is enough information on to fill at least half a journal that lived or was written about between let's say 500-1500 CE, (this now has been expanded to include up to the year 1550 CE). Maybe it's Chaucer's diary (wouldn't that be interesting) and it tells of how he got the inspiration to write the Canterbury Tales (of course these don't have to be historically accurate entries these journals are based on real people but interpreted by you, so they can be rather entertaining if you get a little creative). The journal should include a few 'in character' entries, maybe some loose notes or pressed flowers depending on your character, maybe you found Lancelot's diary and there is a rose pressed between the pages from a certain young lady...just something that your person would have stashed away within the pages. Also, add artwork (hand drawn or collage, any medium really that works) of your character and some actual historical facts about them so we all can learn more of them as well as be 'taken back in time.' Fill at least half the journal as stated above and decorate a few more blank pages for your partner to use and fill in! Put forth your best work and get creative! Decorate it, distress it, make it look old, alter a journal, buy one that looks old or make your own, just make it nice- something you would love to receive and treasure! The ideas are limitless- a wizard's journal may look more haphazard and used as compared to a lady's but both are still nice and interesting in their own way. Remember extras are nice if tailored to your partner or the theme of the swap, but always do your best on the main swap. Hearts are not based on extras but for the quality and thought given to the swap itself. Of course extras are a usually good thing and some ideas related to the theme of the swap may be a handmade bookmark, maybe a pen or anything your character may have left near the journal. You get the idea. I am going to make this a little ways off so we can start brainstorming and give everyone a chance to sign up including new members as they join. I am also going to allow some time to make it so we can all do our best work! This is a group swap so everyone should be trustworthy but I will say this now - if you flake on a group swap you will be dropped from the group. Also, if you are going to be late even by a day please pm your partner to let them know it's just common courtesy. I understand life happens. If anyone has questions, please pm me or post them below, I am always glad to help! That being said have FUN! Use your imagination and happy swapping! |
