Description:

Dear Ladies

Now that our assembly rooms are active once again and we’ve enjoyed the delights of our first two balls, let us gather again for another special event. Lady Elizabeth desires the pleasure of your company at a Salon she is hosting at the assembly rooms for all the ladies in the surrounding villages so that we may enjoy one another’s conversation and get better acquainted with our new village residents. This shall be held November 13th, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

A Salon is a gathering of minds where we discuss our favourite poets, music and writers among other topics. The idea is to circulate and join in conversations we find interesting. We shall have a cakes from Eva Broome and sumptuous morsels to feast upon from Mrs. Pym and the Rose & Crown cooks to sustain us while we happily sip tea and chat.

For such an elegant gathering, a swap that is equally elegant is in order. Indira’s inspired idea to create a little flip book to highlight a special tea is just the thing we need. To describe our booklet, the cover shall be decorated with beautiful things from your stores to create a delicate design that invites the recipient to open immediately. The first two pages of this booklet will show an invitation to the Salon that shall be embellished prettily to guarantee attendance. The following two pages shall show tea in all its glory from fine china to the delectable things served at a high tea. The last two pages shall house a tea bag on one side and your letter, filled with happy discourse, on the other. The back cover of your booklet you may decorate however you choose, in keeping with our era and our theme of tea.

Because this is an involved creation we will have ample time to complete it. Please fee free to get in touch should you have any queries or concerns.

A Note from Anna: Internet difficulties have caused me to have little or no internet this past week. If you should have queries it would be best to address them to Jane, Nickalli and Pam to ensure you get a timely reply.

Ladies,

Beth kindly pointed out that I had not specified a size for this flip book. So let me clarify, with cost of stamps rising for us all, in an effort to keep postage down let us make our flip books 3 inches by 5 inches, larger if you like.

I was thinking a lot about the 2 page invitation. I am wondering about what that would look like. What do people normally put on the second page? A schedule and/or a menu? I was trying to look up historical examples and not finding a lot of 2 page options. I would love some guidance or links if you have any. Or if you want us to imagine up our own ideas I can do that too. Thanks!

Apologies for not replying right away, my internet woes continue.
Perhaps use one page for the invitation and the second page for embellishments to support the invitation. Generally Invitations of our era were cards roughly 4 x 6 inches with a border design and the details of the event written out. This could be folded to open up over two pages as well. I hope this helps.

Hello Anna, I must be some what daft . The instructions basically ask us to make a 6 page booklet with a cover , is this correct??? Barbara

Star7Lily 11/16/2020 #

Right yes you have it correct....

a FRONT and BACK cover flip book I take it means we open from bottom to top so opening upwards,

ONE folded insert. secured inside.

When opening it, the inside front cover and first side of insert serve as 1st spread. Page 1 and 2.

Opening out next spread the insides of the folded page - serves as Page 3 and 4

opening out last spread is the last page of the folded paper and the back inside of the cover. serving as Page 5 & 6

then we decorate the back cover simply.

PS Anna might correct me if I have interpreted this wrongly. I am not familiar with flip books.

A flip book can open horizontally or vertically, either is most acceptable. You may choose which suits you best.
