Description: | |
The Georgian/Regency Era was heavily influenced by classical styles from art, to architecture and even hair styles. The Romans created books called Album of Accord in which their friends and family would write on a page in the book, much like those autograph books of school days. In the spirit of the Romans, let us create our own Album of accord in which we will keep the pages we accumulate through this progressive swap. As the pages are received and placed in your book, you will have a personal page from each of your fellow Georgettes; a very handy thing to consult when doing swaps. For this swap, we will be making our own Album of Accord. The book we make shall be for ourselves in this swap, and in the future swaps, we shall be decorating pages to send to our partner so we may create a “directory of Georgettes” to have at our fingertips. These pages will tell a little bit about us, give our address and email and a few especial likes and designs and shall include our character’s name and the name of his/her home. This will be such a convenient thing, a quick reference, when working on our swaps. For this round, we shall be constructing the covers of our books. The measurements of the book shall be 5 inches (12 ½ cm) in height by 6 inches (15 cm) in width. Not a big book, but with pages large enough for us to be creative and show our partner a little bit about ourselves and our decorating style allowing us to get to know one another a little better. What medium you choose for your cover is entirely yours. The pages we will be making will have a one inch margin on the sides to allow you to punch holes and add them to your book cover. One of the easiest ways to bind is to first score your covers at one inch on the left hand side, then punch two holes on that edge and thread a ribbon through them, tying them on the cover side of the bound edge. I have found that cutting a plastic straw and pushing it through the holes in the book, it is easier to thread the ribbon through and it does not cut the pages if it should be pulled too tightly. There are other ways to bind also, by using rings, or screw posts or even brads. The binding of the book is up to you, whatever you find easiest. By using this type of binding, it will be easy to add pages. The most important thing is that we all have the same size pages, with the same size margin on the left side to punch holes, so we can add them in confidence when we receive them in future swaps. Once you construct your book, please photograph it and send an email to your partner along with a nice note in your own voice. No need to use the voice of your character in this swap, as it is designed so we may get to know the other members of the group. If you like you can make a page for yourself to start your book off. To reiterate, for this swap we shall be making the front and back covers for our Album of Accord in which we will put the pages we will receive in later swaps. The size of the book is 5 inches (12 ½ cm) in height by 6 inches (15 cm) in width. You may decorate the covers however you like, this is your book. Once you have made the covers, punch your holes and thread your ribbon through. That’s it, you are ready to photograph and send to your partner via email. Here are two links which briefly show how to bind in the way I describe.
