This swap is International, and you will send to 2 partners. What is Imbolc? You can read the wikipedia article Here for more information, but Imbolc is a celebration marking the coming of the spring, and is usually celebrated on Feb 1-2. This is associated with the goddess Brigid, and that it was Christianized as the feast day of Saint Brigid, but is also celebrated by Pagan and Wiccan beliefs in more traditional roots. This is still celebrated today, and food does tend to be the focal point of any festival or celebration! January and February tend to be rather bleak months, when we start to really get eager for Spring and the new plants growing, warmer weather, more sunlight. Gardeners tend to start preparing their soil so it is very fertile, so the plants can grow, and start seeds in warm places. The earth (Mother Earth) does this too. And symbolically, so do we. To ensure fertility and abundance in the coming spring, offerings were made for Brigid. Bonfires were set, blazing hearths and candles were lit to strengthen her powers, and bread, cakes, custard pies, cheeses and drink made with magical ingredients associated with the sun (such as egg yolk, butter and honey) were served for the Imbolc Feast. OK, history lesson over. :) What's the swap? In this swap, you will share with your partner a minimum of 3 recipes that reflect these types of foods that you do, or you can, include in an Imbolc festival celebration. Think of foods that include eggs, milk, honey, butter, or greens that might be the first to appear in your garden. Or foods associated with Brigid, Irish mythology or Celtic traditions. Even if you don't celebrate Imbolc or related celebrations, if you have foods that fit the above requirements, you can join in this swap. If you like swaps like this, with a Pagan theme, you might want to join us over at the Pagan Community Centre Recap
