Are you a fan of folklore? Would you like to create (and receive) ATCs of creatures from folklore from around the world? Then welcome to the Folklore ATC series! ATC #1 features Baba Yaga (AKA Ба́ба-яга́, Baba Jaga). Baba Yaga is a figure from Slavic folklore akin to a witch, but not quite the same. According to Andreas Johns, she is "a many-faceted figure, capable of inspiring researchers to see her as a Cloud, Moon, Death, Winter, Snake, Bird, Pelican or Earth Goddess, totemic matriarchal ancestress, female initiator, phallic mother, or archetypal image." So... it's a bit complicated! Physically, she is typically depicted as an older woman with sagging features. She flies around in a mortar and pestle, and lives in a hut on chicken legs. Of course, this is all open to interpretation. Here is the Wikipedia article to read more. Swap rules!
