My Dears, With summer high upon us, so many things in our gardens are ripe for harvest. I thought perhaps we would work on our herbal index. . This time I have chosen a pretty addition to our cards. Chives are unassuming little plants but have such good qualities it will make a happy addition to our postcard herbal. In friendship, Old Mary Herbs and windflowers were indispensable items in Georgian times. Whether for adding flavour to food, remedies for ailments, cleaning solutions, scents or even ridding one's home of pests, herbs were grown, dried and saved for many everyday uses. The purpose of this progressive swap is for us to create a card catalogue of herbal knowledge. As we go forward through the many different herbs, you will have an invaluable file of useful information that will form the basis of your own private herbal, something every household referred to. For our swap, you will have one partner to whom you will make and send a postcard that features our chosen herb/wild flower, large enough to add a good amount of information. Ideally it should be no smaller than 3 inches x 5 inches. On the front of the card, you will feature the chosen herb for this swap. You may paint, draw, sketch, collage or print a picture for the front of your card. On the reverse, please add the basic properties of the herb and if you are so inclined, a recipe, remedy or tip for the herb. In this Postcard Herbal Swap, let us think about Chives, a versatile plant that has many beneficial properties. As this card is to form a part of our herbal index it is advisable you mail your card in an envelope and not send it naked. If there are any questions regarding this swap, please get in contact. We’re always happy to help. |
